I’m being cautiously optimistic that Criterion will release Children of a Lesser God. It’s a film that has never been released on any HD format.

VinSyn has been releasing many of the more obscure Paramount titles as of late, so a higher chance it goes to them.

I was thinking it could be them or Cinèmatograhe as well.

I've got my usual hopes for Criterion releases:
'Talk to Her' / 'Hable con Ella'
'Color of Money' - I keep hoping Scorsese's clout can finesse this one from behind the Disney wall
'Baraka' / 'Samsara'
It would be nice to get more Steve McQueen films on 4K. I get the feeling Warners wants to release a 4K of 'Bullitt' themselves, but if they're less attached to 'The Getaway' and/or 'The Cincinnati Kid', those would be great.

As for 4K upgrades of titles already released by Criterion, I get the feeling 'Sid & Nancy' is coming and I'll definitely go in for that one. I won't be surprised if 'Ghost World' comes this year. I haven't got around to picking up that one yet, so I'll hang back and see if that happens. I'd really like 'Y Tu Mama Tambien', so I hope that happens. A standalone 4K release of 'Chungking Express' seems way overdue. And as for stuff Criterion put out on DVD but never on blu-ray, a leapfrog to 4K would be great for 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being' and 'The Bad Sleep Well'.

Hoping for a great 2025 !

Doesn't do much for me, it'll be interesting to see if Shout starts moving more towards HK and less horror as they deplete their library/rights.
At long last, some of the most important LDs and DVDs may finally get the love they deserve. Even if it is from Scratch Factory!

Thanks to OPs RevolverOcelot and DukeTogo84 for their information!!

I'm so in for all of these...almost.

TCOM, I see that and raise you Kundun. There has to be some way he can manage these two. Between his name and the films' statures, they really shouldn't be buried under the mouse's ass for all time.

As for Chungking Express, I want the movie on 4K too, but I want the movie as it originally was, not the jacked-up remaster in the WKW box set. So if we get the original look, I'm in. If it's all weird, I'm out.

A standalone 4K will happen, we just don't know what it will be.

Warner will probably release Bulllitt in 4k when the new film based on Frank Bullitt's character is released in theatres.

A 4K restoration exists and StudioCanal already put it out in native 4K in France and on a 2K disc in the UK, so Criterion will likely put out a 4K at some point.

If Criterion doesn't release it, I wouldn't be surprised to see it in Columbia Classics Vol. 6.

Which means Criterion would likely release a standalone version like they did with Punch Drunk Love and Last Picture Show.

Ah ok, just wondered. UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG 4K and early Baker are strong possibilities for sure, though, and as I posted multiple times in this thread, someone with a direct, 100% legit source said ANORA is confirmed for April, so it wouldn't be a surprise if the Baker set releases the same month.

For anniversaries, the big ones I hope Criterion marks are...

1925: The Phantom Of The Opera, especially the 1925 version (most likely a Kino Lorber joint)

1935: Mutiny On The Bounty

1940: Pinocchio and Fantasia (yeah, they ain't happening, I know)

1955: Lady And The Tramp (both cuts) (one or two things that ain't happening, depending on how you count it/them)

1960: West Side Story, Spartacus

1965: The Sound Of Music, Doctor Zhivago, The Greatest Story Ever Told, The Hallelujah Trail (roadshow cut), Battle Of The Bulge

1975: One Flew Over THE Cuckoo's Nest, Dog Day Afternoon, The Rocky Horror Picture Show (throw in Shock Treatment as a bonus?), Monty Python And The Holy Grail, Salo (again, not sure how/why this wasn't released yet)

1985: Brazil (I still don't own this movie at all...please make a 4K happen); The Black Cauldron (theatrical cut ain't happening, original cut definitely ain't happening)

1990: Dances With Wolves

1995: Strange Days

Pretty sure it's confirmed already that ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST is coming directly from Warners. DOG DAY AFTERNOON and DOCTOR ZHIVAGO are a wait and see.

I wonder/hope Criterion can sub-licence The Killer & Hard Boiled from Shout so they can put out 4K releases along with some other titles.

Unlikely as Shout appears to have ceased sub-licencing when they started doing the store exclusives stuff. Shout previously licensed out some stuff to Criterion which consisted of the John Cassavetes titles (some of which became part of the Westchester catalog Shout purchased), Breaker Morant (which they still had US distro rights to at the time from New World/Roger Corman) and ITV stuff like The Red Shoes. Shout also subbed out a ton of ITV stuff to Scorpion and one title to Kino (which they originally got from Umbrella Entertainment).
