I chose to watch the Kino Blu-Ray, and just finished it gosh this was a long film, but still plan on buying the 4K plus Blu-Ray of Lost Highway this year not during the flash sale though. So I chose not to wait on a box set, and buy it separately.

I was already expecting Janus title Flow to get nominated for Best Animated Feature, but it also getting a nomination for Best International Feature was a nice surprise.

I found the Lost Highway 4k to be quite good. I haven't seen the Kino blu, but I can't help but think you will find the Criterion to be a significant improvement.

How much would you spend on a used Criterion title? I've been eyeing a copy of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World for under $20 before shipping for a bit and I'm a bit hesitant. I'd be getting a good deal right?

Depends how much under $20 we're talking about. If with shipping it comes relatively close (~$3) to $20, then you're better off buying it brand new during a 50% off sale. Also keep in mind there are two releases of the film from Criterion, an older dual-format Digipak one that's OOP, and a BD-only one in a plastic case.

$17 plus about $5 shipping at most.

Just saw this post the other day and thought I'd share this here...

Christopher Nolan on physical media:
“If you buy a 4K UHD it’s on your shelf it’s yours, no company is going to break into your house and take it from you. That’s never really the case with digital distribution, you’re relying on the continued health of the supplier.”

With the passing of David Lynch, I'm still hoping that Criterion release Straight Story. I know there's been some great international releases of it in the last few years. But it would be tremendous and help the legend of Lynch if Criterion could put his film out in North America.

Criterion typically has a 24 hour 50% off flash sale in late February or early March on their website. I suspect it will be March 18th, when they will be releasing Chaplin's "A Woman of Paris" and "Godzilla vs Biollante". Just a hunch on my part.

I wonder what happens to the films that were reverting back to him? Apparently his divorce wasn't actually finalized so I guess his last wife will control all that stuff now.

I grabbed the German Arthaus release. Got tired of waiting on Criterion to get off their ass.

It still appears to be with the ol' Mouse House in the US, so it's likely not Criterion's doing or fault.

I'm not sure if David and Emily's divorce was messy. I hope not. Butni do hope that any film rights retaining ended up with his kids. David seemed like a family kind of guy, at least for his kids. I could imagine them working with Disney and Janus to get a 4k restoration for The Straight Story. David loved working with Criterion so it just makes sense.

After the release of Wall-E on 4K from Criterion, there was speculation that a Disney deal was in place. Or at the very least a few more could happen or that they were open to considering more.

I haven't seen Some Like It Hot since the DVD days so I will pick up the 4K. I was going to wait and see about Anora after I had rented it but will pick up the UHD.

I remember that speculation, but unless I'm missing something (possible), it's been crickets since WALL-E.

Well, there’s also All of Us Strangers that came out, that was with Fox post-Disney buyout. I think WALL-E and AoUS were at the behest of the director and not indicative of a larger deal.

Yeah, I knew that. I guess I worded that wrong. Just meant I wasn't gonna wait around anymore for a Criterion or any other release stateside as I don't see that happening anytime soon.
