Vermiglio was released digitally today in 4K.
It'll probably locked to a BD Janus Contemporaries release, though, just like Anselm. |

I'd like to finally see a BD and UHD for Beautiful Thing, which has been on the channel on and off for a couple years now. Would be a perfect and timely June release.

At this point, as long as it doesn't have an existing Blu-ray, I'll take it as somewhat of a win even if it's film that don't interest me. I've not seen Beautiful Thing, but hope it happens one day!

Alice Wu's Saving Face is planned for June (per her Instagram) and Zeinabu irene Davis' Compensation is planned for August. So there are two new to Blu-ray titles (I think it is a disc debut for Compensation) in the near future.

I'm really hoping Cyrano is near, but after them releasing The Musketeer films I think that one might be a aways off. Maybe Kenji Misumi's films for a boxset in July or November? |

I know Criterion believes directors' wishes top everything, and 99% of the time that works out great, but it's times like these when it doesn't exactly work out that good. |

I'm afraid to say this, but I hope it's not Killer's Kiss, The Killing, or Paths Of Glory.
One, the 4Ks from Kino are great for now. Two, those who have the old Blu-rays, DVDs, or even older copies are likely willing to make do with them in exchange for getting, say, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, Lolita, Eyes Wide Shut, or another Kubrick film that either has no 4K or a screwed-up one. Three, an official Kubrick account advertised the 4K as being for sale a while ago, which was likely prepared for the day the 4K actually went on sale, and it accidentally got leaked. I highly doubt anyone wants one of the Kino-released Kubrick films to get a redux like that. |

(I also like that Baker is passionate about the theatrical viewing experience, but he adores a great physical disc presentation. Very different from, say, Tarantino.) |

I think Tarantino enjoys physical media, but it's not a priority for him. He was going to start some sort of label with Sony, but it never happened, but did help on all those Miramax VHS releases. I think it seems like priority is family for him right now and while he's still very passionate about movies, I don't think he cares that much about contributing to physical releases.

(I would also point to him on the Late Show in 2021 calling TV and video a "disposable experience." Baker, OTOH, said in March that we're living in a golden age of physical media with all the restorations and the passionate people working on them. That's the difference.) |

I prefer Werner Herzog's approach, who likes having his films on Blu-ray, saying himself they make (decades) old movies look like having been recently shot.
That's more in line with Sean Baker. |

Flicker Alley just added The King of Kings to their site for an April 15th date. Criterion's website shows their DVD as currently unavailable, but seems like there's nothing on their edition that isn't on the Flicker Alley edition besides different scores. So, there's one less Criterion DVD to wait for an upgrade on.

They rarely even play the movies that are good around here. With the exception of A Complete Unknown, Dune: Part Two, and Wicked, the other seven Best Picture nominees didn't play at any theater in my area. My theaters have 12, 14, 16, 16, and 24 screens - what were the other screens reserved for? Tarantino can still do physical media, and I wish he would. And if his films hit theaters in my area - especially The Whole Bloody Affair - I'd be first in line to see them. 4K, when properly done, is the closest thing to a pristine film print, but it's nowhere near the same thing. I'd still go to theaters if they had something to offer. |
