Great lineup, though I wish there were one or two more Queer films in this lineup given that June is Pride Month.

Midnight finally! I'm a bit surprised it's Blu-ray only, as it seems most of their releases are 4K UHD now.

I thought Saving Face was supposed to be a June title. Personally, I wish a label would license Parting Glances.

Great month. Sorcerer and The Wiz are nice suprises. I knew the latter was coming, but was wondering if it would be Universal themselves putting it out.

Okay, I think we can officially say Criterion is upping their commentary game. Three new, non-repurposed commentaries this month (Glenn Gould, Midnight, and The Wiz). This is a trend that’s been going all year and I’m thrilled about it.

Surprised (and delighted) by Sorcerer and even more surprised by The Wiz. Pretty canny timing on that one.

Went back to Alice Wu’s Instagram post where it was announced, and she said “early days, so dates may slip! don’t we all…”, so it very well might be taking longer than initially anticipated. I also would LOVE to see Parting Glances. It’s in dire need of a restoration, though I wonder what the status of the elements for it are right now. It seems like it might be a really big job to clean it up.

Kinda nuts this is the June lineup, it's July worthy and I can only imagine what they'll have then. Brazil and Sorcerer (presuming that alternate 2.0 is the OG track) are easy buys.

Sorcerer and Brazil on UHD Oh my.

Wish Criterion would include the US theatrical cut of Brazil but I know that won't happen.

Good good! Thelonious, Glenn Gould, Mishima, Diana Ross, Billy Friedkin, Palin/De Niro/Gilliam and a script by Billy Wilder?
I’m calling this my favorite month yet!

And for those that complain that Criterion are only putting out 4K upgrades, Midnight (1939), Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould (1993), and Thelonious Monk Straight, No Chaser (1988) are all worldwide debuts on Blu-ray.

Those deep Steven Rales pockets seem to have done Criterion a World of good!

Almost 20 years ago I went to a restoration screening of Parting Glances at Out fest in L.A. and it was indicated at the Q&A that a new disc would be released. But it obviously did not happen. The old full frame DVD still available from First Run Features from Amazon. It looks like it is still in print.

Quote:
On July 16, 2007, as a part of the Outfest Legacy Project, a restored print of Parting Glances received its world premiere at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles. The four major stars of the film, Richard Ganoung, John Bolger, Steve Buscemi, and Kathy Kinney, were in attendance and participated in a panel discussion after the viewing.[5]

The restoration print received its New York City premiere on October 29, 2007 at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.[6]

"Being there" and "five easy pieces" would be wonderful on 4k.

Maybe it's just me, but it kinda rubs me the wrong way that Criterion rejected SORCERER a decade ago when Friedkin (supposedly) offered it to them and they only decide to take it on now after he passed away.

His movies are great. He was kind of difficult to work with. Maybe that’s why. Anyways, sometimes artists aren’t fully appreciated until they pass.

Omg...

Thought Brazil would be a July title.

And The Wiz, Sorcerer, Mishima...none of those were on my radar!

It's gonna be a long, long, looooooooooooong wait until July...these next 109 days are really gonna drag.

That being said, if Brazil is a June title, July is really gonna rock us. Brazil was going to be in my July prediction, so now I really have to think.
