What are the odds of Criterion (or anyone else) picking up The Zone of Interest for a 4K release?

It's already on 4k. A24 have it I think.

I like that A24 are at least releasing most of their stuff physically but I do also think they've been lacking a bit on the supplements. Would've been nice to see Criterion pick up some films like The Zone of Interest, The Brutalist and Aftersun but at least they have releases.

I had this really vivid dream last night that I was watching the Criterion version of Girls und Panzer. There were like 3 commentary tracks for each episode and I was baffled by it when I woke up. I know nothing about the series and I'm thinking the odd combination must have stuck.

Am I the only one wishing for a 4K upgrade of THE BLACK STALLION, one of the most beautiful films ever made?

I wonder sometimes if CGI and AI have reduced the power of films like THE BLACK STALLION which involved back breaking work to get the most perfect images there could ever be to suit the story. Now people just sit punching keyboards to create art, but what Ballard did with BLACK STALLION was paint an entire art gallery and then put wheels on it to move from one masterpiece to another. It is a stunning achievement, but does anyone have the respect or patience to try and understand that kind of fading manual craftsmanship anymore?

I recall that is one of my favorite films in the Criterion Collection. This brings up many philosophical and existential dilemmas: Will AI ruin the future of cinema?

Like many out there, I have a pessimistic outlook on how AI will shape humanity, especially in film. We've already seen a giant backlash from the actors and screenwriters when they went on strike last year. I think when people depend too much on machines to "solve everything," someday our world will resemble Idiocracy a lot more than even that film ever imagined.

I think the leap from compositing to CGI was an advancement for filmmakers, but this was the very beginning of the bittersweet effect AI brings to the table. The singular vision of a director will be ruined when future films will rely on AI to not only enhance the film but create the "story." When machines, in 50-60 years, make decisions over the writing and choose actors for casting characters, rather than humans, we're no longer going to be the most advanced race on Earth, but subordinates to the true master race: Self aware machines!

Sure! I mean, part of Nolan's reputation is the painstaking analog quality of his work. Even a film with a ton of CGI like Dune was lauded by how much physical reality it insisted on (like sawing holes in a soundstage roof to get the right quality of actual light). Even in this age where photorealistic slop can be punted out in seconds - maybe especially in this age - people appreciate the meticulous, human effort.

I hope you're right. I have to admit a lot of AI technology fascinates me and sometimes I feel tempted to study it or try to work in that field, even though I'm currently semi-retired. But man I've seen videos on YouTube where AI brings old portraits of historical people to life, including Jesus based on the Shroud image, and it is something I can't stop watching. Now they are putting voices to the historical people and pretending they are being interviewed, such as Marie Antoinette before the guillotine, and it's amazing.

It doesn't scare me or disgust me anymore than rampant CGI did when it first began invading movies. If used with intelligence and artistry and above all, judiciously, I think it could be a monumental wonder of technology in any area. I know all the downsides too, but those roads don't need to be taken. However as we are dealing with human nature, they inevitably will, I suppose.

Limit? What Limit .. Amazing visit; she absolutely looted that closet. Lyonne is such a talented actress and a personal fav of mine. If you haven't seen her in the series Poker Face, I highly recommend checking it out.

I'd love to know how many she took in total. She's got way more in her hands than ended up on the list at the end!

Poker Face is such a brilliant show, just watched the most recent gator one last night and laughed so much! Natasha is an incredible actor, can't imagine anybody else absolutely killing the role like she does.

Such a firecracker, best Closet installment yet. She spent the most time on Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling.
