Flow really is a slam dunk release.

It's animated, it's the first Latvian film in the collection, it's universally acclaimed, and it's absolutely loaded with extras including an entire feature film.

Still too much.

I want ZERO politics in my ART. Politics are for SAVAGES.

That's why I only watch GODZILLA MOVIES because they are about a BIG LIZARD and are NEVER about political subject matter like the testing of atomic weapons in Japanese waters or the poor handling of the Fukushima disaster.

Thanks. I am guessing Rashomon would be the next UHD BFI release then? Then that pretty much would leave new-to-bluray films to be done next.

Rashomon is unlikely since the restoration was technically done at 2K. They scanned in 4K, restored at 2K, then up-rezzed to 4K. (Not meant to be a cost-saving measure, but the surviving film element didn't really have 4K worth of image)

Ikiru and I Live in Fear apparently have 4K restorations.

So Ikiru would be next, which makes a lot of sense meaning that we are essentially now just moving on to new to Blu-Ray Kurosawa titles. So yes that means Red Beard, Drunken Ángel, The Bad Sleep Well, Stray Dog even though I already have the BFI Blu-Ray, Snow Trail, I Live in Fear, and a number of other Kurosawa titles would be next. Also Ikiru got a nice release from BFI recently that I still need to pick up. Ikiru is also my number 1 Kurosawa film of all time with High and Low in second place.

Honestly, it’s about freaking time that Criterion finally gets to some new to Blu-Ray Kurosawa again they’ve been waiting way too long.

I think the current BFI Blu of Ikiru uses the 4K restoration, but I could be wrong.

Honestly, since they skipped doing High and Low on UHD, I can't imagine that the BFI will release any of Kurosawa's non-Samurai films on UHD.

I Live in Fear, really? That actually surprises me a lot. Ones that wound up in an Eclipse collection, I guess I don’t expect a fast greenlight to a 4k restoration. Not that it’s not a very fine and troubling film.

Hopefully they will be able to actually squeeze out a noticible improvement for High and Low compared to the recent BFI release so I can have all my favorite Kurosawa films in UHD.

This is great Criterion keep the African American cinema coming the rest of this year still need to buy Killer of Sheep this year.

Also I've got my list of Criterion titles I'm buying for the sale mostly African American, and UK cinema titles.

Round Midnight
The Long Good Friday
Devil in a Blue Dress
To Sleep With Anger
One False Move
Withnail and I
How to Get Ahead In Advertising

On Amazon I'll be buying
Seven Samurai
Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai
Menace II Society 4K
Killer of Sheep

That's everything
I wish more people would discover NOTHING BUT A MAN, which is not on the lists above. It's such a powerful document of that time and a man whirlpooling it.

I'd honestly love a Criterion release of "Emilia Pérez". It may not be my favorite Audiard or the next Netflix movie I'd love to see get released (still waiting on "Mank", "Maestro", "Blonde" and "Da 5 Bloods"), but its infamy does allow it a place in the Criterion conversation alongside such other topical controversies as "Salò", "In the Realm of the Senses" or "Tiny Furniture".

High and Low and Spinal Tap in September might be the most cross promotion slate I've ever seen!

A lot of us called High and Low to specifically coincide with the new one, but I honestly didn’t see a lot of people calling Spinal Tap. I personally assumed it was going to get some kind of studio or non-Criterion release, like so many of their earlier DVD titles that never made it to Blu. (John Woo two-fer, Robocop, Grand Illusion, etc.) A wholly pleasant surprise on my part.

It would, of course, be great if that DVD release, with three different versions of the film, could receive a BD or 4K upgraded release. However, I think the rights to the film and its various versions are more than a little complicated, as would be getting hold of the film elements for new scans. Be great if it could happen, though!
I had heard that about the book and given that Welles wrote no other novels I am aware of, it stands to reason he was not the author of this one.

I love the movie MR. ARKADIN and the Criterion DVD box set. I would love to see it upgraded to Blu at least. I found the three discs used at a library sale for $3.00 , ex library loaner discs, but they were in sleeves, no case at all. I wrote Criterion and asked if I could buy just a three disc plastic case for the discs. They said yes for $5.00. So I sent them the fin and they sent me back the three disc plastic case, its artwork, the outer hardcover box and the included novel! Now that’s what I call exemplary customer service!

I will be definitely getting Flow (fantastic movie. I'm still thinking about the ending) and This is Spinal Tap. 'Spinal Tap' will also be coming to theaters in July. I will be going to that as well.
