I'm sure Kwaidan will be out sometime, it was in the Amazon.com poll that Howards End won.

Just jumped on the Blu-wagon (...sorry) and the first two disk have both been Criterion Releases: Chungking Express and Kagemusha. As expected both are excellent quality. I haven't minded Criterion's cardboard cases in the past as they tend to be high quality, but the sleeve for CE is too loose, which has resulted in the actual case falling on the floor after I absentmindedly grabbed it bt the sides. Kagemusha has the standard plastic case which I think is both more practical and aesthetically pleasing, so hopefully they'll stick with those (unless they're willing to do a 300/Amadeus-style "booklet.")

And thanks for posting the 2010 preview. Nice to see that Stagecoach will be picked up. Its a longshot but I'd love for them to get Mulholland Drive, especially considering the current R1 DVD. As for re-releasing stuff they already have, off the top of my head I'd love to get a new release of Picnic at Hanging Rock. Really gets overlooked by a lot of people in my opinion.

Mulholland Dr. would be awesome.

I bought an import DVD of Picnic at Hanging Rock since the Criterion DVD was non-anamorphic. Great movie that you "experience" rather than try to explain.

David Lynch seems to mistrust home video however, fearing that his films will not be seen in the way he wishes them to be seen. Although again, if anyone would cater to his wants on a release of Mullholland Dr., it would be Criterion. They'd have to remove the "Timeline" feature, the disc chapters and ability to pause, fast-forward and rewind the film. And for extras, we'd get a three-hour long video feature consisting of Lynch sitting in a '50s style recording studio and smoking a cigarette while reminiscing about the making of the film. The booklet would no doubt include an essay by Slavoj Zizek. What I don't know is whether, with BD's new encryption, Lynch would insist on using optical blurring for the female genitalia in the lesbian scene as he did for the DVD release, to prevent it from being excised and leaked onto the internet.

Hmmm, the list didn't mention anything of Guillermo del Toro's film. I hope they release his film, I love all of his work. (If only they would rerelease Pan's Labyrinth!)

The director's cut of Ride with the Devil really intrigues me. I'm just hoping they release them all on Blu-ray. What are the chances of that?

I recently emailed Jon Mulvaney about the possible release of Gimme Shelter anytime soon and this was his reply..

"In response to your release question, GIMME SHELTER should be out on Blu-ray this year!"

So we know at least one of the unannounced fall titles!

Also I was a bit cheeky and tried to get some clues about other upcoming titles that have yet to be announced and this was his response..

"We do try to announce our upcoming releases as far
in advance as possible, so the best way to stay up-to-date on our
future release plans is to check our "Coming Soon" section and
e-newsletter."

I don't think he spills the beans unless it's a sure thing..

I wonder why "The Third Man" has been out of stock for a whole week at Amazon. Is the demand that high? Or are the new cases coming?

During the sale in July they were able to fix the stock problems within a day or two at max...

I'm pretty sure there just out of stock and waiting for more, after all the 15.99 price was an incredible bargain. I'm also pretty sure it's not OOP!

Found time last night (this morning ) to watch Kagemusha...... The transfer was strong, and it's a fantastic story.

I still have the bulk of Play Time that I need to watch.

That $15.99 sale probably spurred a lot more orders than they anticipated.

For what it's worth, this scene was still blurred on the HD DVD.

Ive been crazy slow getting to my new blus (been away and also spending time with my new criterion dvds) but I watched Last Year At Marienbad about 2 weeks ago and I was floored.

instantly one of my favorites, though I'll be quick to say it's not for everyone. still a wonderful experience. and I got a lot out of the included essays.

Just recently watched my first 2 Criterion Blu rays and thought I'd post some comments.
The Man who fell to Earth - Competent "decent" transfer but nothing to make me go "wow amazing job Criterion"...

Bottle Rocket - if anything I thought it looked pretty soft. Was this intentional (filmmakers intent?)

BTW what is it with the reviewer on this site who feels the need to tell the whole frikken story in his Criterion reviews. Please stop telling the plot/spoilers!

God I so wish Criterion would get the rights to La Dolce Vita! It was last put out by Koch Lorber (2004/05). Are they not an offshoot of Fox?

They also need to get cracking on: La Strada, Nights of Cabria and 8 1/2 on Blu.

You should see the old SONY DVD release of BOTTLE ROCKET ... I couldn't take my eyes off the BD transfer, it looked flawless.

Man Who Fell to Earth looked as good as it should... Roeg sometimes uses different lighting techniques in his films but it is a really good transfer.

I can't imagine those films looking any better in a theatre.

Thanks, yes, I suspected Bottle Rocket might be source limitations.

I have my HD-DVD set up in my bedroom. F&L looks great but for some reason I do not see it going Criterion. There choice of Films seem to be a different caliper this time.
