Thought about getting the UK dvd, but read about a company that is not Criterion (who's name escapes me at the moment) having acquired the rights for this in the US. Can't seem to find the reference.

Would prefer a non PAL sped up version if dvd ends up being the only option. If somehow this ends up on blu-ray in the US, hope it's not tampered with like the French version seems to be (it looks like all of its grain has been removed (dvdbeaver); think we may very well have a winner for the all time worst use of DNR on a blu-ray ever).

Hopefully the US version will be Criterion. With any luck maybe they did manage to get ahold of it after all. Otherwise hope the US rights owner does a great job on it (i.e., not some crumby PAL to NTSC conversion hack job).

Whatever version I end up with eventually, it will be one that hasn't messed with the grain (NTSC, PAL, blu-ray, or what have you). If it ends up PAL sped up, so be it.

The last two barnes and noble sales got me to collect them all. I just wish they would cut back to 3 or 4 titles a month

I guess that's the downside of having to buy them all. But seriously, the more releases the better. Just thinking of all the titles they've teased on releasing makes the waiting harder.

I was up to date at one point too, and then they released Monsoon Wedding. Ouch.

Janus and Criterion are promoting a newly restored edition of Beauty and the Beast on their twitter accounts. Could be another BLU upgrade in the pipeline.

In eager anticipation for "White Material" and having seen lots of recommendations for it, I watched Claire Denis' "35 Rhums" last night and it was pretty damn awesome. It revolves around a "family" of sorts, some literally related, others just closely associated and is basically made up of random moments that make a collective beginning to end. The narrative is quite sparse and leaves the viewer to fill in a lot of the blanks, but that's the kinda stuff I'm drawn too.

I also finally watched "La Moustache". It had been in my queue for forever. It's about a man who has had a mustache for most of his life and on a whim shaves it off, but not only does no one notice, they begin telling him that he never had one to begin with. It starts really strong and is surprisingly tense for how little is going on, but I felt the ending seems a bit muddled. Still worth viewing if you find yourself interested. Both movies are streaming via Netflix

There seems to be a lot of enthusiasm with Blow Out being released. Might just be a top seller for Criterion.

I really can't wait for this one. I'm a huge De Palma fan and Blow Out is probably my favorite of his.

I'm not that big of a De Palma fan, but I do like a lot of his films, and Blow Out is certainly one of them. I cannot wait for it either, because we know Criterion will do a amazing job with it.

I've been pumped like Reebok for this since I saw the trailer (shortly after it was announced...... I had not heard of the film prior)

It should do well. Fear and Loathing will also do very well. It's close to the top all time.

I'm really looking forward to Blow Out as well but I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been much (in fact, I can't really recall any) 'why go so mainstream' backlash.

According to the Criterioncast guys, Fear and Loathing is the best selling Criterion DVD. Couldnt hurt that it's the only one I have ever seen stocked at a Walmart.

Me too! I had no prior knowledge before the new years drawing, but seeing the trailer definitely struck a chord. Very excited!

I am trying to "collect" them all as well, but am missing 27 still. Any idea when B&N will do another 50% off sale?

You should watch Trouble Every Day. I've never seen a movie that has so many contrasting opinions. Some find it genius and others find it to be one of the worst movies ever made.

I for one am indifferent. I thought it had some interesting things, but was ultimately empty.
