I can totally relate to this.
I used to make a coffee and then stand in front of my collection of blu-rays trying to decide what to watch. I was often so indecisive that my coffee would get cold
I've even put on a blu-ray, watched 5 minutes, ejected it, put in another one, watched 5 minutes, ejected it, before finally settling on something

isn't that what collecting Blu-Rays is all about? marvel at the physical medium and begin the mourning process?

If Criterion were to give me those, I could hold out forever on seeing Wild Strawberries on blu-ray since their DVD is perfectly fine.

I agree, as that would make sense to fans and broaden Criterions horizons. IMO though, it seems that CC is turning a little focus from the eclipse sets and marketing its blu-ray changeover and newer releases. I unfortunately believe that less and less releases are going to be the great eclipse sets. Fans are going to want every release on blu-ray and I think CC is seeing that. It may become a 'cost' thing after all, but who knows.

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but I'd like to see some Juliette Binoche on Criterion's blu releases. I changed my avatar from the "House" cat in her honor at least temporarily. I first noticed her in "Summer Hours" and started looking farther. Right now "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" and "Blue" are my two favorites. I've got "The English Patient" and "Chocolate" in my Netflix que. She is so incredibly sensuous without even trying.

(If I've stolen anyone's avatar let me know and I'll change)

I agree, although not "all" will require two viewings. Some movies are easier to digest, a la "Charade", "Bigger Than Life", and "Stagecoach."

I found that to be the case with "Last Year at Mariendbad" and I plan to revisit some films I enjoyed after the first viewing, but "need" to experience again for whatever reason, "Breathless", "Vivre sa Vie", and "8 1/2."

On another note, I was finally able to sit down last night and experience "Army of Shadows." Frickin' amazing film. I loved the look and feal of the cinematography, and the lead actor, Lino Ventura as Gerbier, was mesmerizing.

Loved the intro, loved the characterization, loved how the plot played out, and the ending was fantastic.

For some reason, I kept thinking that a younger Robert De Niro would look just as cool in Lino's role had this been made in the late 90's as an American film (shoot, everything else has been remade...although I would not want to see this one "Americanized").

I woke up today thinking about it and read all of the essays in the booklet to quench my thirst for more Army of Shadows!

Don't ask why am I on this board. The FAB over Criterion blu-ray is lame (not everyone), to the point of collecting just to collect them. I see the people on here that buys them because it's something to collect and end up on the sales thread un-open because they never really wanted them in the first place. There are people that starts slipcover threads on here. SLIPCOVER THREADS! Let that sink in for a min. Don't act like I'm a troll or spammer or whatever because I replied to someones' boner for a C release, when what matters should be the film. I don't care what my "Rep" is on here, and others can keep posting youtube links with 3 Stooges songs, because that is your waste of time. I should be doing the 3 Stooges song to every thread that has a "Got EM!" or "SLIPCOVER FANS '11" or "What is your fav boobshot?" or "Packages is what I buy, not films. I'm sending this purchase back!" crap.

Now you all got something to chew on tonight. Make it good. Tell me how much I am a troll and I hate on people even though I'm replying towards the same crap of what you will all say I am. This rant is either what you all wanted anyways or it's getting in the way of collections posts and if a film arrived in "mint condish!". Either way, it's something to hate SB/CG about.
I love you.

let's hope these other Uni classics get the CC blu treatment:

Spartacus
Two-Lane Blacktop
Brazil
Dazed and Confuzed (packaging similar to the 2006 release would be awesome)

With talk of the inevitable dusting we were supposed to get this morning, I imagined we would have no school for at least a week. Lo and behold, we only had a 2-hour delay. I was afraid my B&N shipment of Amarcord would have to sit out front in the snow-dust.

It arrived in perfect condition so it can now sit on my shelf untouched and stay that way.

I can't wait to stare at it later next to Seven Samurai, wishing for a cardboard release of The Lady Vanishes so it won't look awkward in a plastic case surrounded by 2 cardboard cases. I don't know what I'd do.

According to this site, 2 CC films will get the BD treatment overseas...

Wonder if we'll get them here as CC BDs this year.

I thought Diabolique sounded familiar as an upgrade. I've been interested in Bicycle Thieves for a while now, but have so many other films that I'd like to see first.

If you haven't seen Bicycle Thieves it should be your top priority

It's for an art-print from Criterion's site... it's an Amarcord print (I would love to have it, but even if I bought it the wife would have nothing to do with it)

I think it's $125 before the coupon... so basically it'd be $75

On my cable provider, both IFC and Sundance are only available in the upper tier. This is why I wish the MSO's would go to an "ala-carte" menu of channels. I'd gladly give up sports channels (which actually costs them more) in order to get IFC and Sundance. And for some strange reason, in NYC, only Time-Warner seems to have Sundance HD. Neither RCN or Verizon FIOS offer the HD version (at least not the last time I checked).
