I like the paper packaged cases a lot and thickness isn't a bad thing but the SWEET/SUCCESS case is really compact.
Perhaps it was in response to the negative feedback they got from Night Of The Hunter......

And you ordered a paper-cased film rather than purchase locally

Well I thought at first it was a Paper style case then I read DVDbeaver's review and it said plastic, and I thought they might have changed it last minute so I went ahead for 24.99 on amazon.com and then last week I realized it was a paper one, so I figured I would chance it. I figured I'd have to do a return and get a replacement but it all worked out.

and yeah I love the Night of the Hunter case too.. but that one is one of the most delicate they have released.

Got my sweet smell today. Was expecting the case to be exactly the same in size as amarcord but although it's of the same structure type its much smaller not just in thickness but in height and depth as well.

Both of them are definitely the two best cardboard movie cases I've got by a long way. Very sturdy and have gotten to me all the way to the UK just fine.

I'd love to see a Criterion release of korean film The Chaser. Probably won't happen, though.

I just got my copies of Fish Tank and Sweet Smell of Success delivered by Prestige Couriers... Amazon seems to use them a lot for Criterions in the Louisville area. The guy drove a Maxima with rims and a blaring system... He kept rummaging in the back seat and then trunk and then back seat again, I just stand on the porch watching and he says "don't worry I'll fiind it" 10 minutes later he hands me the package and said "that was close I am missing like 20 packages"

Oh I know its like am I getting a couple blus or getting robbed, there was only this tiny Prestige sticker on the driver side door. I am surprised he risked scuffing the "candy paint"

Interesting to see that some many here have disliked (The Great Dictator, for example) made the list.
Did Time only find out about Criterion when the Blu-ray crowd did?

This is why I asked recently if anyone knows how Criterion make their decisions.
I presume they must have their own wishlists, but then they have to take into consideration whether they can get the distribution rights, the licensing fees, the availability of acceptable copies, as well as potential demand for a title.
I was quite surprised about Benjamin Button as well, because you'd have to assume that Warner and Paramount would have given it a good blu-ray package. I have the Australian edition, which is distributed by Warner, and it has all the same extras as the Criterion. The only difference is the audio is TrueHD, not DTS-MA (which I don't consider a problem). The video and audio are impeccable
Back to earlier discussions: I don't know why some people complain about current and future Criterion titles. There's plenty of titles that seem quite popular on this forum that I don't want, so I don't buy them. No need to complain about it

But, we want you to complain so that we can then complain. That's what this forum is for... complaining. The Criterion front is just a façade. Don't you see how it goes full-circle? It's like that amazing song by Elton John in "The Lion King."

Red is traditionally associated with Communism, but have you seen the Nazi flag?

On another note, it's interesting that some people are put off by the bright red of The Great Dictator artwork. I like them both, but if I would call any cover garish it would be the one for House. Shock Corridor and The Naked Kiss are pretty ugly, not for the artwork itself but the color palette. The yellow and bubble gum pink almost make me sick to my stomach. I'm sure the artist would consider it a personal victory to get that sort of visceral reaction out of someone, but it just makes me want to look away and avoid the movies all together.

For House, you have orange, a bright but fairly neutral color, broken up with white and black into the image of a face; much less abstract, and scary in such an over-the-top way as to be funny.

No, isn't it something like the cover of Liberal Fascism by uber-smart guy Jonah Goldberg?

So I went and pre-ordered "Sweet Smell of Success" from DeepDiscount.com because they sent me a $10 promo code to use on any item, which I thought was a super deal! But then today the order was cancelled and when I contacted them about it they said it was because the item was "discontinued". Wha?? And of course, even though the order it was used on was cancelled, I can't use that promo code again... Pretty disappointing. Anybody have much experience with DeepDiscount? Should I keep badgering them about this, or is that a pretty futile thing to do?

I've never had a problem with them, but I know many people apparently have I know during 'big' sales sometimes it would take up to 2 weeks for shipping..... but when you're getting a movie for $10 that hasn't gone below $20 on Amazon yet etc.... I can't complain (but everyone else can ) I've never had orders canceled etc. but none of that matters.....

To answer you question: 1) I wouldn't push it with them, they probably can't get the title etc.. so what can they do, and 2) I would push them to give the code back.... and just tell them you want to order another title..... any 'just-above-average' customer service should at least do that!
