I really liked the packaging for Sweet Smell of Success. Much better than a plastic box.

Oh yeah, to the member who said their order got canceled on Criterion, don't worry. I've read on CAG *cough* that Criterion accidentally sent cancellation emails for people who got their orders on back-order.

You'll probably have to email Criterion to fix your canceled order.

There was also Button, which came with its very own cardboard slipcase.

[Show spoiler]namely the ending. I thought it was kind of dopey to have our hero drive like a druken child on the return trip and drive himself off the edge. AT LEAST Clouzot could have had him drive over the "forgotten explosive charge" and blown himself up. I was very disappointed by the current ending.
I feel pretty strongly the same way.
[Show spoiler] After playing our emotions like fiddles for over two hours that ending seemed incredibly manipulative and heavy-handed. I could have lived with a fairly traditional 'the sense of invunlerability and immortality which got him through all this is that which causes his ultimate downfall' fatal flaw but being beaten over the head with it seemed a bit much.

I won't go so far as to say it made me view the film all that differently. I wasn't really sure it had too much replay value before the SPOILER.

I'm just saying the SPOILER didn't help.

No, I did not get a cancelation email, but I did get an email that said because I may have received a cancelation email due to out of stock items, that it was sent by mistake and that my orders were OK.

I'm really excited about Au revoir and Topsy-Turvy, although I might have to wait until a sale to pick them up.

One of them, Play, is a university instructor down here at the University of North Carolina - Central. A guest speaker I had come to our school last year was attending that particular school, a historically Black college, and said Play was his teacher.

I do think House Party deserves a mention here...although not Criterion related.

Well, the girl looking up "House" was not the one who knew of the CC House. The guy I was standing and waiting with was the one...he's about my age and had a crazy college roommate who collected (and watched) all sorts of oddball films. My co-worker said he used to make him watch them with him.

My wife makes fun of me for posting on CC's wall on fb...she gets a kick out of repeating what I posted while we're hanging out...

Many females are not "in the know" when it comes to CC...at least the females I know.

To be fair, the average person doesn't know about Criterion.

Quick question (off topic...)

Does Criterion.com charge for a pre-order when the order is placed or when they actually ship the pre-ordered movie?

Which makes no sense to me as it undermines the design, but whatever.
It's making the best of a bad situation. The art really should have been better in the first place. Probably too late to go back to the drawing board with new imagery at this point.

They usually say, "Hey, Janus Films" like they recognize it but can't remember from where.
I have the Janus Films shirt too, but every time I wear it with a cardigan it says "anus Film," which provokes strange looks from cashiers and the like.
