As for "Something Wild," other than the trailer it only has one bulleted "interviews" supplement.
There's a $10 lower price-point just because of that? They should totally stop producing new supplements on all releases!

haha. That cover is one of the best this year. Stills are always safe and awesome.

Criterion finally has a month this year where I actually want more than 1 thing (and an Eclipse I can't wait to check out!).

whoever designed the Kiss Me Deadly and The Makioka Sisters covers needs to go back to design school. Holy amateur! They clearly don't know how to use fonts and colors.

Is one of the supplements "The Day Spielberg Killed Hollywood"?

The Kiss Me Deadly cover is a riff on pulp detective magazines.

I don't think they totally nailed it but it's not as far off as you're making it sound.

The Makioka Sisters looks like Chip Kidd phoning it in. I assume Kiss Me Deadly is supposed to look like a cheap pulp/detective novel or something, though I don't particularly like it either.

It looks like some of the DVD->Blu upgrades are held back for a lighter month when something is needed to fill the schedule. I'm sure it takes less time and money to release an upgrade, and you never know when the release of another title will slip due to an unforeseen problem.

I would have liked Beauty and the Beast, but we should get it eventually.

Ask criterion about the lower pricing on Makioka Sisters. Looks like they are testing the response here is the respones

The Criterion Collection: Glad you like it. We do too. Let's hope it works!

The Kiss Me Deadly cover art isn't too bad, it just doesn't really seem like a Criterion release.

And yeah, the Makioka Sisters cover art is pretty weak. Like someone attempting to emulate Criterion/Eclipse releases.

The alternate ending of Kiss Me Deadly is hilarious. I hope there will be a way to watch the entire film with that ending (seamless branching?).

This movie totally ripped off Pulp Fiction, though.

It sounds like they're dipping another toe in the 'cut out the middleman' waters.

Be still my heart...

This one is in a tricky middle ground for me.

I don't really want to buy it blind but I also have a feeling I'm going to be reluctant to watch a lower quality stream.

Of course, if they do a three reasons trailer...

i've actually seen 12 Angry Men

it's the prequel to Angry Bird!

I'd ask it myself but I'm worried there might be a pretty good answer and I would look dumb.
and octagon, when i am around, you never have to worry about looking dumb!

as for the frequent questions. i often am serious. i've read the wiki and still don't get the significance of all these directors that i have legitimate questions about. i get the big names like Kurosawa, Bergman, Wilder, Fellini, Lang, Huston, Fincher, Polanski, Anderson, etc.etc.etc.

but som1 like Samuel Fuller? who the heck is that? these are genuine questions.

like the recently announced June titles:

-Nicolas Roeg’s Insignificance. before i came to blu-ray.com i had no idea who Roeg nor did i care. now i have a couple of his movies on Criterion BD and know more than i did before. so i've been learning somn.

Kon Ichikawa’s The Makioka Sisters (outside of Kurosaw, i dunno any other Japanese directors)

-Louis Malle?
-Matarazaao?? who are these people?

I suggest watching their films (rather than just collecting them ) and discover who they are. I'm not going to say "Oh... you should definitely like Fuller" etc... you should watch enough of each director to decide who's styles you like, and who's you don't.

He's not talking about liking various directors though. He's talking about why they're in the Criterion fold in the first place.

Fuller's an interesting example, too. I just watched Shock Corridor this past weekend and I liked it just fine but was kind of scratching my head over why they went with it in the first place. The booklet made it a little clearer and I imagine the supplements will make it clearer still but I have a feeling I'll still have some questions.

Which is hardly a bad thing.

I'm just saying.
