just blind bought The Double Life of Veronique
![]() ever since i first started reading a bit about the film it has intrigued me and i finally decided to pull the trigger and get it since it's $26, which i (hopefully) don't mind spending on it. and not that reviews on here are the end-all be-all, but how many blus get a 5/5 in every single category? not a whole lot, so that's gotta count for something right? should have it here by thursday or friday (saturday at the latest). can't wait to watch it ![]() |

I'm not at all surprised you like it. It's very good and the direction they took with Mike Hammer was very much ahead of its time. If you squint and tilt your head just right you can almost see Alain Delon in Ralph Meeker's place. Not at all what one would expect in a Mickey Spillane character.
The 'must see', though? Yeah, that was a little unexpected. |

Very good news about the titles! Although I don't know all of them, I'll be getting them and then I'll get to know. Even if I don't like, I can't say it hurts, and certainly might be background to aprreciating something new in the future.
The one I am looking foward the most is Zazie dans le Métro. I saw it at the movie theater last year, and I was quite pleased. Actually, I've seen quite some Louis Malle films at the theater, and enjoyed most of them. Bring 'em all, Criterion! Especially An Elevator to the Gallows, the one I think I enjoyed most from him. |

![]() Excellent choice! Hope you like it as much as I did. A friend of mine recommended it to me a few years ago and, as it ended, I was scratching my head, but also amazed by what I had just seen. Let us all know what you think when you watch it! ![]() |

So: forgot I had added Black Narcissus to an order to take advantage of the $23 price and also get free shipping with another item. Just thought I'd ask you criterion educated fellas how this film stands. What say the CCD masses? (I don't mean to stray from the current topic of Criterions announcement

No, I didn't get any Amazon promo bucks. Just the email stating the release was delayed two weeks. I can't complain, though. Lately, I have had several Amazon Prime orders arrive weeks late or not at all, so in compensation Amazon gave me $40 in my account, which I promptly used to pre-order Criterions in April and May (missed the Criterion sale due to work travel). Amazon customer service is pretty cool. |

I don't know if you all read the Kino thread but they should be releasing the Sergei Eisenstein silent Strike in the summer too, which again, is great news. This I haven't seen, but I love me my Soviet Union films, almost as much as Godards'.

I like to think that I'm open to most genres etc.... but admittedly I have a great deficiency of "comedy" in my collection because many comedies just don't hold up well to multiple viewings for me..... "Modern Times" would certainly fall into the category of comedies I'm glad to own though, and look forward to many more Chaplin films going forward. |

Why? How many copies of the same movie do you need? Getting NEW releases>>>rehashes just so people can say "shiny".
