Guess I'll be importing the UK release after all.

My Au Revoir just shipped. I had ordered it and Solaris at half price but couldn't wait any longer for Au Revoir, so I cancelled the other title.

Anyone pick up the clear replacement cases on Criterion's website lately? They list them as "Amaray." Are they the same ones they use for their releases? I thought they were suppose to be the Scanavo cases. If someone is able to confirm this it would be greatly appreciated.

I watched Sweet Smell of Success yesterday. Great film. I thought it was a little dull at first, and the "zippy" dialogue got a little on my nerves, but then it settled into a really good story, even though there were no likeable characters to root for.

The two main protagonists were respectively slimy and creepy, and the sister seemed extremely dull, almost entirely devoid of personality. But somehow it really worked. And the cinematography was beautiful.

I ordered for a user overseas. They are the same clear Scanavo cases.

Really? For me, the dialogue is the best part of the film. My gf and I are constantly saying lines from that movie. It's just fun-time, over-the-top, B-movie schlock-type dialogue.

Yeah, as long as the titles aren't OOP, Criterion usually has extras on-hand. It's usually like $5 for that stuff and you have to pay through PayPal.

It did a little at the beginning but when my brain started to catch on I loved it.

Well, I wouldn't send any money until you've gotten in touch with someone, either the Jon Mulvaney e-mail or the orders@criterion.com e-mail address? At least, that way someone will be expecting it.

I think the sister's personality was supposed to be overwhelmed by J.J. Hunsecker's personality. She was starting to show signs of becoming her own person, and JJ could not accept that, which sets up the struggle in the movie. Unlike many movies, it was not really a good vs bad struggle.

Who better to root for than that

The pictures uploaded in the Chungking Express review (from 2008) shows a sleeved case, with book-cover style case inside with a different cover art.

I went to a B&N today, and the copy it had in stock is in the plastic case that's standard now.

Did they change how the disc is packaged as time went on? Is it still possible to get the older packaging style?

I have never purchased the film, though, I thought I remember knowing that the film went "out of stock" for a while on the website (anyone correct me if I'm wrong), so they might actually ran out of the "first wave" of cardboard and actually started all clear cases (like they said they would of done with all of the first releases when they would run out of back stock).

Maybe you could still get the cardboard release at a store that has backstock or even Amazon.

I have the old cardboard case and sleeve..... it'd be tough to make it worth-while to ship it etc though... you're talking about an empty case here

Yeah that sounds like the likely reason.

I prefer the inside cover much to the the outside; Faye and low shutter blur don't actually appear together in this movie.

I picked this up during Criterion's 50% Facebook sale and they shipped me the cardboard package edition.
