You know, I think I received an e-mail like that too....

Hey, maybe you can use your influence and bring the Criterion thread on HDD back to life, since its been slowly dying for a year+ now... You know what...Never Mind..

Ordered Amarcord and Sweet Smell of Success. (I already had SSoS, but my bro-in law borrowed it and really liked it, plus it will be his first CC BD so...)

Just finished Blow Out, by far my favorite De Palma ever. Great all around package so if anyone is still thinking about picking it up for @19 bucks, I say go for it. A big plus is that the film has quite a bit of repeat viewing potential also.

they had them on the site for a week or so, then took them off. As we all know, the blu-ray sized ones are impossible to find. I wanted to pick up 12 or so, as I am tired of e-mailing Mulvaney when amazon or B&N conveniently breaks one for me.
Those plastic cases can be rather brittle...

That said... [rant] Since it's amazon or B&N doing the crappy shipping, why not make them replace them? Why stick Criterion with the cost of replacing them when it's pretty much amazon's or B&N's fault? Send them back for a swap (it doesn't cost anything in amazon's case, may or may not in B&N's case), or take them back to one of their stores and get a good copy. Or return them for a refund, and/or order them again later. Maybe they'll smarten up and improve their crappy packing practices (I do realize how dreamer that is). Make sure it's amazon and B&N who pay for their stupidity, it shouldn't be Criterion. [/rant]

Obviously there will be an exception from time to time, but I really don't understand kids these days.

Cardboard, now that's another story…

hence why I said crappy. But still in his case, I was making an example as to why the king of glam gets a backseat to the Bowie love in the U.S. But the Hall of Fame is a different story like you mentioned. It's a joke. Though, can't wait to see when Guns N' Roses gets in there and IF Axl and Slash gets on stage together.

I get bored with things, so switching my avatar is what I am. There are some things I don't get bored with, but images do get boring after a while, doesn't mean I like one avatar better than the other, because I love all the images I put up on here.

My Amazon order just arrived... 6 new Criterions to add to the "need to watch eventually" pile.

I'm throwing away a lot of "Director Approved" Criterion Blu-ray stickers, people aren't going to hate me for that, are they?

LOL unless there's a trend where they keep them on the case like those kids who keep the stickers on their fitted hats.

I just finished it and couldn't help wondering if it was a really dry, really elaborate satire. I kept thinking of Strangelove - the material was so absurd it couldn't be taken seriously and they decided to shift gears and embrace that.

In that light, Nicholson's 'You know why I love simple-minded people? It's real easy to get them to do what you want them to" would be pretty freaking funny.

On the other hand, maybe it was just a mess.

It's hard to be sure.

Judging from "Head", I'm going with the "Angry Bob + Jack = Mess" theory.
It was a decade where Messaging or intentional Satire just weren't all that darn subtle.

Wrong. Bob wasn't the director of A Safe Place, nor was Jack involved with the script. It was all Henry Jaglom. Jack played Mitch for a new coloured TV from Henry. At least with Head, the mess made sense, and it was a sublime mess, unlike A Safe Place, which was not an enjoyable mess. I tried watching it again last night, and was interrupted with a phone call. It's improving somewhat, but the film really is indulgant and full of itself.

The mess Head was makes sense for the year it was released, and the whole issue of dismantling images and distilling comprehension from a vast number of sources coming at you all at once. It was also as mess because like you said, Bob was pissed at the Monkees and wanted to destroy them. It's still a much more, highly enjoyable film, and among the mess, there's a lot of great stuff in there.

I'm biased though, as Head is my favourite movie, and not just out of the BBS set.
