Soderbergh mostly went away from the political side of things, and mostly showed a beautiful film that reminded me of Herzog's Aguirre, the Wrath of God in some scenes, and in others' a biopic like I never seen before. Really fells like it isn't a biopic.

If you are a fan of film (in which I know you are) and can sit for about 5 hours, you will love it, unless you are on the "CHE Hate" thing.
Thanks...... Looks safe to get I guess.... I just never bought it before because I didn't know the tone it would be in.....

I look at it this way...... I will watch a film about Hitler without issue, and they can praise him for pulling Germany out of the Depression, and credit him with the great public works projects he did, like the Autobahn....... but if they gloss over or skip the bad points completely, then I don't want any part of it. I don't mind watching a film about a person who did terrible acts, as long as it's "honest"

It was bare bones, though. Definitely looking forward to the Blu-ray. It's a very slow-paced film, but if you stick with it, you will be rewarded. Nastassja Kinski is at her most beautiful in this. Although she doesn't have a lot of screen time, her role is quite memorable.
I just sold my DVD for $30

I watched some of it but had to shut it off since I had to go but a 4 hour foriegn film. I don't know if I can keep my attention focused that long or if i'm going to have that free time.

And some critics had problems with the film too. I'm just worried Soderbergh is a hit or miss guy. He can bore or he can entertain so it just worries me but Del Toro is a phenomenal actor.

For those who are wondering about "Che", I just thought I would throw my 2 cents on the film in here. I saw it in a theater last January during the roadshow presentations. Personally, I thought it was a brilliant film. The cinematography, the score, the acting are all top of the line. For the most part, Che is presented in a pretty even handed manner. He is not glorified, but not demonized. However, there is a lot more positive than negative. Remember that the sources for the film are John Lee Anderson's amazing biography "Che Guevara: A Revolutionary Life", and Che's own writings on the events depicted. If your expecting numerous executions, you wont find them here. In a nut shell, if your a Che hater, you'll hate the movie. If you love Che, you'll love the movie. If you're not in either camp, you'll have to see for yourself. What I can say is that, for the most part, what is depicted in the film is probably as true to the real historical events and people than most other films have ever come. All that said, I have been on pins and needles for this release since we first got wind of it. And from the looks of the presentation of the film and the bonus features, it will be one of Criterion's best releases.

Eureka's MoC Twitter account apparently just announced Fritz Lang's M for February 2010!

Anybody think we might see a Criterion BD update a la For All Mankind?

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realize it was so big!

Well, we all know that it's Kurosawa's 100th anniversary in March 2010 and releasesing some Kurosawa on Blu-ray is a must for Criterion. I think that "Rashomon" has the best chance of being released on Blu-ray. It was recently remastered and Janus Films already gave it a theatrical release so it's just a matter of time when Criterion will (re-)release it.

I was looking thru releases at Best Buy today and they actually had Monsoon Wedding for BD but their sticker price was $42.99 ! That is higher than the retail price. haha so odd. BB messes up their pricing so much. Now sales for the title could suffer in their stores because of the issue.

I'm more than ecstatic about the recent Criterion announcements -- and I'm back on track getting all of them, having surmounted certain, eh, financial hurdles. We'll be in for a treat come January.

And McCrutchy -- what brilliant news from MoC! And WHAT A COVER!

Those guys are mesmerizingly good.

Hey guys and gals,
Pretty stoked for January's releases, finally seeing 8 1/2 in Blu-ray is pretty exciting. I'm happy I never picked up the DVD.
Been a while since I've been on here (I'm getting this Intranet thingy hooked up in my new house on thursday (damn Comcast ), so I'll be able to stop mooching off work, friends, neighbors, unknowing buisnesses (thanks Best Buy!)
Keep seeing a little more on Kurosawa on Blu, any news from the Criterion front?
