I've had similar-ish experiences. They are very slow, but I've never had an order just not arrive at all. Also had maybe one or two items cancelled over the different sales in the past couple of years.
I'll definitely be ordering a few this time, and personally I think it's a bonus that they take Paypal.

I'm used to Amazon and have had pretty good deliveries from them, but obviously now is the time to be looking into B&N.
My only experience with B&N is from the November/December sale of 2009. Their shipping rates were cheaper than Amazon's ($12.44 for 5 Blu-rays) and I was very pleasantly surprised when my order arrived via DHL (vs Amazon's regular snail mail).

But since then a lot has changed and I've read that they are pretty bad now.

Similar for me. Two sales ago I had to wait over 2 months before they even shipped the item. Last sale I had to wait over 2 months before I received the package, and then my Seven Samurai had some damage. About the only good thing about them is that they declare the contents of the packages as "books".

Overall I found them to be fairly poor and decided not to bother with them anymore. Got pretty much all of the released titles I was interested in during the Amazon sale anyway, and pre-ordered High & Low, Leon Morin and Music Room for under $20 from DVD Planet. That leaves Battle for Algiers which would be nice at 50% off, but as I recall BN's shipping cost is close to $10 for one item so probably not worth it, unless there are some additional coupons.

In-store Borders is generally very depressing-- small selection, high prices (around here at least). Online is decent with a sale.

If you go on to their computers in the store and look up Criterion on blu-ray, the vast majority of them are listed as "Not available in stores." It's a shame. I used to buy quite of few them a few years back on DVD.
There's some truth to this and the selection is dwindling to be sure, but there are still quite a few to be found, at least in my area. I used the current 50% coupon this afternoon to pick up the LOTR:EE set along with CC Howard's End.

One tip: Many Borders now have B2G1 bins for various media, including Blu-ray. For whatever reason, they've put many Criterions in there (but you won't get B2G1 pricing if you're using a coupon, obviously). So that may be part of the reason you're not seeing as many on the shelf. Titles I'm consistently seeing in these bins are:

- Stagecoach
- The Darjeeling Limited
- Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence
- Walkabout

And several others. It's still worthwhile to me, as each of those 50% coupons are a way to chip away at my Criterion wishlist in between B&N and Amazon sales, when I'm tempted to buy a huge stack (and reminded by my wife that that won't be happening).

Great avatar Tybee! Whatever happened to Jeff Mangum?

On Topic: I'm in Canada and Barnes & Nobles orders usually take 3-4 weeks to ship. Their customer service if absolutely brutal if you run into a problem though.

FYI, anyone who didn't snag the BBS box set when Amazon had it on, grab it during the B&N sale! I'm rewatching Head for the millionth time, and I still am in awe at how gorgeous the picture is. Huge, huge, HUGE improvement over the Rhino DVD.

Oh, the other films in the set are pretty awesome too.

Default Black Moon

I just finished watching Black Moon. Wow!!! What an interesting trip! Like my experience with "Last Year At Marienbad", I was left puzzled and yet have this deep desire to experience it again. I bought Marienbad for that reason and may end up buying Black Moon for the same reason.

Been on the fence about buying Black Moon. Maybe during the sale I'll get it.

Get off the fence and get it. Tripped out but utterly fascinating.

I'm interested in Black Moon, but netflix does not have it yet. I may just blind buy it during the sale and sell or trade it later if I do not like it. Although I'll have to check my funds. I have one or two films that I'm def. going to buy, and the rest I'll rent and see.

If u haven't done it yet, hulu has a 7-day free trial for HuluPlus. Black Moon (and several other CC films, for that matter) is available to Stream through that. Just remember to cancel your trial before they charge u for the next month after 7 days.

I have not. Thanks a bunch. Netflix has a bunch of Criterions that I have not seen for instant streaming, but Black Moon is not one of them. Good to know that this is an option. And the trailer did not endear me to the film any. I hated seeing that badger get run over.

Fenris, have you considered a trial subscription to Hulu Plus? It's available on there.

EDIT: What scottpcusa said.
I'm def. going to sign up after my test. I'm not much for blind buys so I need to see the films at least once. That's how I felt about Pierrot le Fou, I wanted to see it at least opne more time, so it's on my list.

Hey everybody... I see some of you are getting rather anxious about the B&N sale, so I thought I would throw it out there that I have both Solaris and The Great Dictator (both Brand New and Sealed) for sale for $20 each right now. If you're interested, just PM me and we can work it out. Thanks

-and sorry for any inconvenience otherwise, just trying to help out some CC lovers here!

After you see Black Moon you will definitely want to watch it again and then again and so forth. Same goes with Pierrot le Fou. You won't regret getting either of those. Especially not Pierrot since you never know when Amazon and/or Barnes and Noble will no longer have any more copies to sell.

Cool thanks. That's what I hear about Black Moon, I'm looking forward to seeing it. I'm not eager to pay $100 for Pierrot le Fou, and I will want to watch it again. It's better to get them now and pay a lot less. One thing that's so great about Criterion titles is they appreciate in value.
