Thank you both for the info. I'm probably just gonna try to get there as soon as I can on the 12th just to be safe.

I have only listened to the Elena Kats-Chernin-composed and Czech Film Orchestra-performed score. I guess there isn't a "suggested" score, just a taste/opinion between the 2 as the other option, "the silent-era-style score by the Mont Alto Orchestra" was recorded just this year, so it hasn't really been the suggested score for that long.

I just know that there are some that are not "Mont Alto Orchestra" fans...

On your recommendation, I'll give the Elena Kats-Cherin score a shot.

I would be all for Armageddon if it meant Criterion would use that money to get some more films from outside of the First World, but considering their track record, they would probably spend it on more Kurosawa, Bergman, Godard, etc boredom.

Probably a stupid question but are there any of the Brakage shorts that are more accessible then others?

I wish there was a way to oust that Armageddon shit from the collection, personally.

Was on the Barnes & Noble site just now and I noticed they're offering a 2-month free trial of their member program. Wise to sign up for this ahead of the 50% sale? Will it save me another 10%? If so, that might warrant adding one one or two more discs to my haul. 60% off all Criterions would be fever dream territory...

I did this the last sale and it's definitely worth it since it basically eliminates tax with the additional 10% off. Just be sure to cancel at the end of two months if you don't want to keep the membership so you won't be charged.

Window Water Baby Moving. Brakhage treads the fine line between being very accessible (at least for avant garde) while also having plenty of substance in his work.

Who cares? If you don't like it, don't buy it. While I obviously like what Criterion does, they are not the only source of great cinema.

After viewing Black Moon today I started to think if Criterion is backing down on the amount of time and money they are putting into supplements on some of their BD releases recently. Black Moon has a 12 min archival interview with Malle (half of which are film clips) and a stills collection. Several other recent (and upcoming) Criterion BD releases have very little in the way of supplements.

How much do the supplements that Criterion offer influence which BD you purchase? I was also wondering what type of supplements fans here prefer. I tend to enjoy the visual essays the most, but I also really like the location pieces that show a "then and now" comparison. (the Bunker Hill/Los Angeles supplement on the Kiss Me Deadly BD was great)

I think some releases have fewer extras because of the lack of ones available. Not every movie is going to have tons of material to offer. Still good that they get these titles out there. If the film is good enough, I can look past there being a lack of extras.

I'm in for the film first. The more extras though the better. Commentary with film experts, etc, being my fav.

I see that it requires a credit or debit card purchase before you can sign up. So if I'm buying my Criterions in store during the sale, do I just tell them at checkout that I want to sign up for the two-month trial and the discount will immediately be applied?

I should be getting all of my Criterions except for Cronos on Tuesday, which is longer than I hoped, but within reason. On the plus side, I got my copy of the Buster Keaton shorts yesterday, a full ten days before it is supposed to be released!
