Supposedly they did release a few titles on VHS, around 1987, I think. I believe someone was able to confirm that they are legit, but I can't find the post that includes that information. Here is an example:

I'm fully aware that the Civil War took place during the period of time of the "old west" and that plenty of western films take place during the Civil War. Since I was referring to the typical "western" film genre, though, as implied by Hollywood, Ride With The Devil just doesn't fit into that category for me. For me, the fact that even though most films in the "western" genre might take place with the Civil War going on doesn't mean that Hollywood exploits it in their films to make the viewer aware of it the whole time.

Why don't you look in the Deals section, Arkadin, for the thread specifically about the sale?

No, Criterion did release a few VHS... less than 10, if I recall. They confirmed it on their Facebook after someone had posted that photo on their Facebook page.

I can't comment as my knowledge of Criterion sure does not extent that far back. I had a Laserdisc from 1988-2001 (when it sadly died on me) but I did not buy a lot of movies on Laserdisc due to price. I was aware of Criterion on Laserdisc but I only purchase The Seventh Seal on Laserdisc.

I'll throw this out to you fine folks (and you other guys too ) but it looks like with coupons etc. during this sale Three (3) Criterion Blu-rays (minus multiple disc stuff etc....) can be purchased for $56-$60 and I would be willing to receive "Makioka Sisters" which is a lesser priced title, and one I canceled in anticipation of the sale, so for $50 or so, you could do the legwork and run around picking up titles or whatever you coupon-hounds do, and I would trade you a copy of The Third Man with both the digipack and plastic replacement case. I have canceled a few orders in anticipation of the sale, so I would have to see what titles I still need that will be released during the time-frame of this sale if anyone is interested in doing this trade.....

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're asking us for...a copy of The Makioka Sisters? For The Third Man? Am I missing something else?

Any specific titles you need for the "Three (3) Criterion Blu-rays (minus multiple disc stuff etc....) can be purchased for $56-$60"

Just curious...

Anyway, imagine fitting what we casually expect today in terms of features back to VHS tapes. Every title would be a box set!
I would be very curious to see a VHS of Criterion and see what quality they had.

Makioka Sisters + two other CC BDs for The Third Man....... Should cost the person doing the deal with me about $50 or so out of pocket (unless they already have some of the BDs.... I don't have to get new copies)

Does anyone know of any coupon codes (for online) that could be used in conjunction with the sale at B&N?

Sweet, thanks. What does the coupon do?

Also, will the sale be 50% off the online prices or store prices?
