Yes. It's puerile.
I've given up on expecting to see discussions about the actual films in this forum.
Once this Wes Anderson silliness dies down, expect to read a lot of tedious conversations about postage and packaging.

if nothing else, we'll all know later today when Criterion makes the announcements. Their site will have all of the features listed, including whatever was lost/updated.

Count me as one of the people who are ecstatic about the release of a "Rushmore" Blu-Ray edition...

*Is not a huge Wes Anderson guy either*

on the page you posted this quote, there was a user posting thoughts on Paris, Texas, and a discussion going on about peoples opinions on Shock Corridor. just saying.

Same, but not nearly as vocal.

Rushmore has been OOP on dvd for some time so this release does make sense. But I can see where people are a bit surprised by three WA titles on Criterion blu already.

I know
In my own defence, I'd just waded through about 3 pages of the Wes Anderson/Rushmore debate.
It's also been ages since anyone really posted an opinion about the films they've been watching.
Thanks to the Darkcritic for getting the conversation back on track.
I haven't watched Paris, Texas for over a decade, but I was always a big fan. The ending packs a huge emotional wallop.
I recently watched Solaris myself. I'm a fan, but I think I still prefer Soderbergh's version. I'm planning on re-watching Tarkovsky's version soon.

I'm just about caught up on my Criterions that I hold in my possession (Blow Out, Repulsion, High & Low, ans Hausu are still trapped in the mail somewhere), as I still have to finish watching Lola Montes. I watche Yokimbo/Sanjuro last night, and I have to say that although both were highly enjoyable, Yojimbo was the more enjoyable film. I felt Sanjuro to be a bit disjointed and not as cohesive as Yojimbo. I also thought that Yojimbo was a lot better than its remake, A Fist Full of Dollars, despite that film remake being awesome. Toshiro Mifune is just an iota cooler than Clint.

Supposedly I'll be adding a 5th movie to my mail system tomorrow when The Killing/Killer's Kiss ships from Amazon.

I like Paris, Texas quite a bit. I love great cinematography but I don't tend to let pretty pictures overshadow other elements that don't totally work but in this case the pictures were awfully damn pretty and the othe element worked extrememly well when they did work and came very, very close when they didn't. Mash it all together and I see a pretty solid A. Maybe not an 'OMG, I loved it' high A but a very solid A nevertheless.

Solaris I just flat out loved. Enough in fact to make me itchy to give the Soderbergh another look. I didn't hate it as much as well, pretty much everybody said I would. In fact, I didn't hate it at all. But I wasn't crazy about it either. And now I want to see it again through fresher, more experirienced eyes.

Great news about Rushmore (best Anderson film, IMO). Bring on Royal Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic!

Do people hate the Soderbergh version?
I think it's a beautiful film. I think it creates a much more satisfying love story than Tarkovsky's version, which in turn makes certain character choices all the more dramatic.
I'm willing to believe I've lost something in the translation for the Tarkovsky version, which is also why I want to re-watch it so soon.

There aren't many threads that have conversations that make sense for too long. Count me in for Rushmore and count me in for wishing for the rest of the Wes Anderson stuff.

I am sure Soderbergh Solaris is popular, must be? Me I prefer Tarkovsky's version even if I won't send hate on Soderbergh. Both are different and funny enough both are different from the original book as well. I do love the cinematography in Tarkovsky's version, it feel more real to me while Soderbergh seem more CGI, which again is not a bad think but my preference just run's toward Tarkovsky's.

I don't know if it is considered an opinion, but I posted the following back on page 1766 of this thread (on the 8th of August).

I FINALLY got Solaris last Friday and we started watching it the same evening (not quite normal behaviour when it comes to Criterions, unfortunately).

When the movie was over I thought it had been interesting to see it but I suspected that it would be quickly forgotten.
Now, several days later, I have to realize that it will not be so... I have catched myself several times in having... hmmm, "flashbacks" is not the correct word. Actually, what seems to be the best description is that I have caught my brain in pondering the film without me even being really aware of it.

It's a strange feeling made even more so by the fact that (to keep in line with the latest string of posts here) when watching the film I wouldn't say that I "got it" fully.
Some of the things I didn't catch on to while watching the film, I had to go to various web-sites to read other peoples explanations. After reading about these things I couldn't really understand why I didn't interpreted it that way while watching as it now seemed the quite logical.

On a side note it was a nice surprice to see where one of my all-time favourite space-horror films, Event Horizon, had gotten at least some of it's inspiration from

I am looking forward to watching this one again, but I think I'll have to wait until my brain has stopped analyzing it.
To add something to the recent discussion... I would actually like to both see Soderbergh's version as well as read the book, it is always interesting to both see the original material as well as various "interpretations" of said original material.

I think more than anything CG/SB wants films released that otherwise wouldn't see a release on an optical format. Can't say I disagree. A film like RUSHMORE would surely be released by someone else if Criterion did not have licensing rights. [On the other hand, I do NOT have a problem with Criterion releasing more blu from directors like Godard, Kurosawa, Bergman, Fellini, etc--- I love their films and will purchase them on blu.]

It just seems so much sweeter when Criterion releases a film like Last Year at Marienbad--- one that had been out of print for almost ten years. Also, releases like the terrific Close-Up, Leon Morin, etc.

My bottom line: Give me a steady stream of upgrades to classic essentials but also give me some surprises. More recent films are lower priority.
