Just finished watching If...

A remarkable film with a wonderful yet, enigmatic performance by McDowell as the hero/anti-hero depending on your point of view. The transfer is pretty decent, nothing to complain about, colours are as vibrant as they can be for a film shot in the late sixties. Blacks are strong and consitant, I did notice some audio drop out around about the 1:46 mark, it may just be the way it should be, but having never seen it before, therefor I am unable to compare it to anything. All in all, another stellar release from Criterion.

We also watched it this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it! And it was BEAUTIFUL, what a transfer!!

[Show spoiler]We had a couple of guesses on that but, like you, appreciated that we wasn't told.

Heh, the possibility of throwing 8/40 coupons at any $40+ title has me positively giddy.

Given the subject matter and era I definitely expected to like it but I really liked it. One of my top blind buys.

I know many want Andrei R. released badly on blu and no one ever mentions this title so much, but I think this release would be outstanding in HD. Definite Upgrade.

I got some feedback via the Facebook page and it is in-store as well. Maybe go for the refund/re-buy?

Watched The Wages of Fear yesterday. Great movie, but I much prefered the first half. And Vera Clouzot is a hot number!

It is amazing how much Vera Clouzot deteriorated physically in the two years between The Wages of Fear and Diabolique. Always a beautiful women, I understand that the production of Diabolique really took its toll on her health.

It is almost like art imitating life, and vice versa.

Yeah this happens a lot, just look at Patrick Dewaere (a great french actor who stars in Les Valseuses which was just announced by Kino). In his last film Paradis Pour Tous his character commits suicide, and shortly after he did the same. He played a lot of troubled, melancholy, and fragile characters brilliantly before that too, and they just took their toll I guess.

I highly recommend the film Série noire, if you can find it or it somehow plays near you (that's how I saw it a couple years ago). I've been hoping some company would put that out ever since I saw it. It's one of Dewaere's greatest performances imo.

I think Amazon is going to play ball this time.

I expect them to match or even undercut.

I thought she actually looked great in Diabolique.

Ya, she was obviously still beautiful, but to my eye her appearance (especially her face) seemed to have aged much more then two years between the films. Her health was deteriorating at a rapid pace by this point in her life unfortunately, and she would die within five years of making Diabolique.

I will always be a big fan of her floor scrubbing skills.

Besides some random people on Facebook, I can't find anything on the Barnes and Noble sale.
