It's still half the price of the Canadian set, even with the dollar below par. I'll be buying it in-store a week from tomorrow, as the B&N store in Portsmouth, NH is claiming it's in stock. Tell me my American counterparts, how much of a price difference is the B&N site from the store? Can I expect this set to be well over 30 next Friday?

Back on topic: I want Dersu Uzala too.
Quite strange, but I have actually had B&N replace a couple of damaged orders (not even missing orders, but "smashed-to-smithereens" cases) lately. Earlier they have flat out refused.

Here's the link for all of them on B&N's site: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/s/peng...rt=R&view=grid
That Jane Eyre cover is GREAT!

Maybe we could get a "The Terrence Malick Box Set - The Extended Versions".

That would

So just "a mark on early film history" caught me off guard. Opinion is yours.
So these people praising it as one of the best of all time--- have they seen every film made? It just seems silly to say "of all-time".

I do believe that if Vigo's work was made this year and released there would be scant praise for it. I found it worthy enough for me to keep in my own modest but growing collection and will view it again. There was a solicitaion of an opinion between two films and I offered mine. Sorry if you were offended. Perhaps you could answer the OPs question and give your thoughts to help make the choice.
I would choose the Vigo films because Solaris is just a mark on sci-fi films and because it contains one of my fav films.

touche, but I would rather listen to the filmmaker's peers (as in other filmmakers) than people on a blu-ray forum or signed up on IMDB. Also because I actually agree with that praise, so I guess it falls more into opinions, which of course is what all of it is.

No doubt there. I won't name the film but there's a review of a recent popular film on this site that makes me cringe because it's so over-the-top and chock full of "all-time" references.

Does that popular film feature a prominent nod to Kiss Me Deadly?

I won't mention it because it will surely side-track this thread. Yes, it's that one.

Thanks for the link John! That certainly can't be bad news. Maybe the HD transfer now exists. I really hope that if a 5.1 mix exists, that Criterion uses that mix. If anything, because of the music.

Now I really want to know what these 'all-time' references are referring to...

Agains, If I didn't already own a previous Penguin edition, I'd be all over it. IMHO, Penguin editions are like the Criterions of the book world.

Apparently we Canadians are evil and a second-rate country, if you bother to follow some of the threads in the Retail section of the board. therefore, we aren't entitled to replacements. We have the audacity to put French on our BDs, and apparently, they're all 720p TV rips.

My Leone set did actually show up though, so I'm not sure if I'm going to get my credit or not. If not, I'm not upset as I actually got the product, albeit long after I anticipated it.

Whoa, congrats on the promotion.

[Show spoiler]I kid, I kid...I wouldn't want to live in a world without Anne Murray or William Shatner.

Anne Murray's from my province. Her hometown's about an hour and a half away from mine. Also, don't forget Leonard Nimoy, Christopher Plummer, Yvonne DeCarlo, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Mary Pickford, Eugene Levy (early in his career), John Candy, and Dan Ackroyd (again, early in his career).

Seriously though, that thread in retail kinda agravated me a little. It went from snarky fun to personal attacks quite quickly. But let's get back to Criterion talk.

Is Inn of the Sixth Happiness too mainstream to warrant a CC release? Because I think it would be a great release, perhaps to be shown as a double bill with Black Narcissus.

I don't want to seem like I'm pitting one against the other...but since it's not only an important set of films, it's also a great package of supplements besides...given a choice of which to purchase first...I would go with the Jean Vigo set. Just phenomenal!

What are everyones opinions on "Hunger"? The review interests me, but I rarely see it mentioned here in any posts. Would anyone recommend it?
