I'd be happy with ANY Naruse showing up on blu...but "When a Woman Ascends the Stairs" is a better bet than any other title...at least in the US.

Amazon really needs to offer a quality packaging service where people can pay a little extra for better packaging. DON'T BUBBLE WRAP CARDBOARD DIGIPACKS!

ok now I must breath and count to 10 like my doctor told me..
they just took the cover art out of the case, its not a digipack... you can breath again..

Here's the packaging photos

I received a B&N email this morning mentioning a "flash sale" from 12 noon - 6 pm EST for fb members...all you have to do is "like" their page and go go their fb page at 12, I guess.

They don't specify what is on sale, or the percentage off.

Just an FYI...

Grr, why do they do this when I'v just spent a lot of money in a short period of time? Here's hoping it won't be a tempting or beneficial sale for me, so I don't have to buy anything. At least I get paid next Thursday if it is something good.

I am wondering if its 50% off. They had a code last week that no you got for 50% off that was good for 6 hours. So i am wondering if they decided to do it this week instead.

More "like" nonsense and exclusionary tactics. Nice sale.

PHEW.....Thanks!

I'm not against digipacks. On the contrary a good digipack can be a beautiful thing. Just not if its received torn and damaged. Can't wait for this release. Love that cover and the disappearing ghost !!

Anyone get their Four Feathers yet?

I'm sure someone will post the code on here from Facebook anyways. I agree it's BS though.

There's an easy way to not be excluded...

It's more like they are rewarding their fans. I love B&N, but I never actually "liked" their page until I got the email...so, no sweat off my back.

Look for Barnes & Noble "company" with the green & white Barnes & Noble logo. Their posts on their wall mention the sale so you know you're in the right place.

C9L3Y4V - For 30% only. Not gonna bother with this one. If it had been 50%, I might have. Enjoy it folks.

Got Le beau serge for $23. Not too bad...their online price was $30.88 or something. It's a few dollars more than their 50% off sale, and it's less I'll have to spend in Nov!

I should check out Los Olvidados and other Bunuel films. I've seen The Discreet Charm of the Bourgoisie, but there's so much more to discover from that director.

But, yes, Salaam Bombay! is definitely a memorable film. With all the comments that Criterion tends to ignore many countries films, a few more first-rate films from India would be refreshing and Salaam Bombay! definitely qualifies. In my mind it's tied for Nair's best film, along with Monsoon Wedding, which already has a terrific Criterion release, and The Namesake, which, come to think of it, could also make a nice Criterion blu release. Salaam was distributed on DVD by MGM; The Namesake on DVD by Fox. Both studios have regular deals with Criterion. They're also both very well shot. Who knows, maybe Criterion will surprise us eventually with one of those films.

I also quite enjoyed Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love. Maybe at some point that will at least earn a blu-ray release (not necessarily from Criterion but a quality release from any studio).

No, there's no need for any extra charge. Amazon just needs to consistently pack its products with utmost care so that they are not damaged in transit. There are other retailers that seem to understand this much better. Whenever any item I order (from Amazon or elsewhere), especially a more expensive one, arrives with so much as a dent or scratch, it will be exchanged and keep being returned, exchanged and/or refunded until I receive a copy that is pristine, as it should be.

Amazon also needs to end the practice of throwing items into padded envelopes that are large enough for those items to move around within them. It may be convenient for Amazon's packers, but such items tend to arrive damaged.
