And how are these set in stone? Have you never experienced an Amazon pricing error in which your order gets cancelled? How are you 100% positive that won't happen with these two?

I watch them more than once when I do feel like watching them again, Criterion or not. It's insane to being pressured to watch some disc just to "justify" the purchase.

I buy them because I love movies, because I like the actually movie and because I feel that Blu-ray is the ultimate archiving format, something that the DVD never accomplished. I won't say that Blu-ray is the last home format but I don't think that we will have 4k panels in the near future for home use. BD is good enough to last decades unless we all have theatres at home in 2020.

If Amazon would cancel this they would have already by now. If they are still standing means that they will not be cancelled by the time they ship them.

I'm the exact same way. Film is very dear to me. I practically was raised on movies, so to speak.

If it's a film I really enjoy, and it's a high quality release, I have no problem spending $30-40 on it. Nowadays, even people that could afford it, are a bit too stingy, and won't spend more than $10 on a movie....even if it's one they really enjoy. More and more people also seem to be less concerned with the quality now. I don't know what happened!

I'd rather spend $30-40 on a high quality BD, with no extras than spend $10 or maybe $15 on a release with a ton of features and sub par picture and audio.

This is exactly why I buy BDs (instead of DVDs) as well.

Regarding Criterion DVDs vs. BDs
: I only know one other person who buys Criterions, and he is every bit the movie geek I am...perhaps even more so, and he will always upgrade his Criterion DVDs to BD (as do I) so I suppose in my tiny view of the world it seems as if BD would always be the number one choice among Criterion collectors. Others have different experiences/know different people, of course.

As far as re-watching my Criterions to justify the cost, I look at them as a special part of my overall movie collection, but just like other films, I re-watch the ones I enjoy the most. Some I never re-watch, some get watched countless times. IMO, the "price justification" comes from owning a physical copy of the film with the best presentation available.

I always thought if you're going to buy a movie and only intend on watching it once, then just rent it.

A majority of the films I own, i'll re-watch. But there are some I own (most notably on VHS) that I own strictly for collection purposes.

That's too funny! Do the SW saga BDs have the french audio?

...runs off to check.

Edit: Can't find info on the packaging, and feeling too lazy to pop it in and check.

Oh well, hopefully I will remember to try the french option next time I pop these in the player.

Wow, was there really a full page of posts arguing over each other's collections and whether it's right to add a film to your collection when it's on pre-order?

Unfortunitly I'm hard of hearing (and spelling) so listening to feature length commentaries is pointless for me.

Ha ha....like a rude waiter with a breathing problem.

I wonder how many requests Criterion is getting on their My Criterion now for Star Wars.

I'd love to see Criterion release one of Sergio Leone's westerns.

If they weren't already on BD, I would love to see Criterion add the "The Man with No Name" trilogy to the collection. It would be nice to see A Fistful of Dollars, especially.

Of my nearly 300 Blu-rays, I don't think I've watched a single one more than once. I don't think forcing myself to watch the same thing over and over would make me enjoy it more, or make me feel like the purchase was more warranted (probably the opposite, since I'd waste more of my time on the same thing when there's so much else I haven't seen out there.) A lot of people base the value on how much time they can spend on something, for me if I pay $25 for a great Blu-ray of a great movie and it's a great experience that's often good enough for me.

I've never really understood people who say they've already watched this or that five times one week after the release. Do people really sit down and watch the same thing multiple times in short succession, or do they watch it 'properly' once and just leave it playing on a loop on the TV in the background?

Anyway, re-reading what I just wrote above makes me sound like I really should be a renter, but the reasons I buy:

-I like to own stuff.
-I like to support and reward good products and good efforts, and revenues from rentals seem to be so small it feels like one might as well just download.
-There's no Criterion here, so can't rent those.
-I hate subscriptions anyway. I subscribe to rent, electricity and internet, that's it.
-I like to have a quality collection for that time in the future when I might get the urge to re-watch something. I largely skipped DVD because it was simply not good enough for this purpose, but Blu-ray is. Basically the 'archival' reason that was mentioned previously.

I'm going through my collection revisiting films. This weekend it was Everlasting Moments.

The scene where
[Show spoiler]the children are watching through the windows as Maria takes a photograph of Ingeborg laid to rest is incredibly moving. Excellent film.

Right now that's my top pick for them. It's actually my personal favorite of the trilogy.

That is my favorite scene of the film! I consider it one of the most overlooked films of the collection. I never see it mentioned here, but I believe it is one of the very best.

The best Criterion commentary will always be "Robocop".
Verhoven explains that it's the story of American Jesus with a gun.

They should release them anyway, of the MGM releases I consider the first to be the only one with acceptable quality. Not that it's ever going to happen.

Oh wow, I decided to try out that Criterion website collection builder and turns out I have 111 (all Blu-Ray) titles. And that's not even breaking out the multiple film box sets. Only started buying them about 2 years ago too. Not sure if I should be embarrassed or proud. Roughly 1/4th of my Blu-Ray's are Criterion.

And yes, I have seen every one that I own at least once, nearly all multiple times.
