Just an FYI to everyone but I got a partial order in the mail late last night of my replacement cases. I ordered 6 altogether but only received 4. Chungking Express was the one I didn't receive and the other was just an extra case for future use so I can't recall what title I generically ordered. However, I did get LYAM, TTM, EN (Beautiful case) and 400 Blows.

The cases were still shipped in a larger bubble mailer but the wrapped all the cases in another layer of inner bubble wrap and they all were perfect. I'm hoping I'll get the rest today as I'm thinking they may have just sent me two packages so they could use bubble mailers and first class mail instead of a larger box and priority shipping.

ANyways, most of you should be expecting the cases any day now.

Could you talk about how they did Last Year At Marienbad's clear case? How is the lettering on the cover and stuff? Thanks.

I just hit the jackpot. I was talking to my friend who I have been trying to get to start buying criterions for years now. And he said he would buy my dvd versions off me when I upgrade to the blu version for $20 a piece. So with the current prices on amazon ill be upgrading some of my criterion to blu and actually making a profit!!! But that profit will just go to all the great blu criterion releases coming up. But hell, im excited. Gimme shelter, playtime, 8 1/2, man who fell to earth, and the seventh seal all get upgrades to blu for me soon.

edit: The spine also says Last Year at Marienbad in black instead of the same colored white embossed.
Its not embossed. Its a perfectly flat insert and they used grayish shading to make the cover writing stand out.

I wasn't all that jazzed with the embossed older packaging so I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. Its basically looks the same.

But El Norte, as expected since its colorful and white framed, looks great in the packaging and on the shelf (mainly cause its spine stands out against the mostly black and gray spines).

400 Blows looks ok. And the Third Man looks pretty good. Hopefully I'll get my Chungking Express today as I really like the artwork on that sleeve.

I'm definitely getting the clear cases for uniformity, but doesn't the collector in you want to keep the cardboard casings?

/random thought

I don't think I'll upgrade the cases. It's too much money, and I'd rather use that to buy other titles. I also don't have all of the cardboard case Criterions, so I might need to spend thirty bucks later on again. Plus, who's to say Criterion doesn't change their cases later in the game? Look at the DVDs, they went from the regular amarays, to the thicker ones, to the cardboard ones. Doesn't look uniform either.

I dont mind some differences but the cardboard cases used for the blu rays just don't look good and are OPEN on the bottom meaning the packaging falls out whenever anyone picks it up off the shelf. Very annoying.

Just not a smart design.

The Magic 8-Ball says no.
But hey, anything could happen.
(The Third Man is already OOP, in case you didn't know)

No, you already have the insert book from the paper case version.

I know that, but I assume that you have received one of the replacement cases and confirm that there is no insert in it?
