Indeed. That makes the deal worthless in my view. Buying two items means I'm still paying that retarded shipping price.

Do people have any idea how much it costs to ship from the States to countries besides Mexico and Canada?

I can see why Criterion doesn't offer international post.

I've tried to put together some deals on this site with people in Europe and international shipping costs put the kybosh on the deal (shipping cost more than the item's value).

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy a gift card outside of the US? I got the $10 account credit but I obviously won't be able to spend it but I thought converting it into a gift card would be simple enough but it wants a US shipping address for some reason!

I bet it has something to do with them being region A locked....but on the other hand, Eureka / MoC ship worldwide.

I'm going to preorder A Night to Remember from Amazon.com later today. I think I'm going to throw something else in the cart, if I can find a decent deal. I have no idea what to get though. Anyone have any suggestions, Criterion or otherwise? Region A please.

Yeah, it's ridiculous for Canadian shipping too though:

Quote:
UPS Worldwide Saver:
Flat rate of $19.95 for the first item, plus $3.95 for each additional item.

This rate covers trackable shipping by UPS Worldwide Saver only. It does not include any import taxes, customs duties, or brokerage fees levied by Canadian customs, which UPS collects from the recipient at the time of delivery. We have no way of determining what these fees may be, but you will be responsible for paying them in order to receive your items. Please check the box below to indicate that you agree to be responsible for paying any fees incurred once your shipment reaches Canada. As an alternative, we recommend in-Canada sellers like amazon.ca.
Basically the shipping negates the cost of the savings. I'll still end up paying for an item as if I had ordered it from Amazon.ca without the pre-order cheapo price.

I created my account to buy directly from them, but their shipping costs turned me off of that idea once I got an estimate (didn't know they were so high back in April 2011 when I made my account). I also use their site for collection tracking, and to get the newsletter. I usually buy from Amazon.com, or B&N. Sometimes I'll do Amazon.ca if I can jump in on the cheaper pre-order deals, or if I want an item ASAP.

Also, UPS likes charging their fees based on a percentage of what they think the package is worth. So if you buy something for $10 that has a MSRP of $100 they will charge you as if it was worth $100. I would never use UPS for anything. I once bought a lot of used video games for $10 on eBay and they tried to charge me $75 for brokerage fees! I had to refuse delivery and abandon the package which they then told me they would resell. I hate them so much.

You could add a $10 GC to bring the toal above $50. You get the $10 back, and you don't have to pay shipping. It's a win win.

Don't know the story about the $75 "brokerage fees", but UPS wants the value of your package for insurance purposes. Insurance is included for UPS shipping, whereas it's not necessarily included with other shippers unless you pay extra for it. Obviously the rate is going to change because the value that is being insured changes (not saying it's a good deal or not, just saying that's why they want the value of the package).

Criterion sure knows how to make a man (or woman) feel loved on this Valentine's day...

I'm wondering if they'll let us score the Anatomy of a Murder & World on a Wire. I hope so!

Now send me a coupon you slags.
LOL...Thanks Joe! I was having a crappy morning...got a server that's eating my lunch right now and a laugh is helping to dull the pain!

Depending on your location, patience, and need to have it now...you might want to wait. There is always the B & N 50% sale (all Criterions) in a few months, which I'm waiting for as well. I'm told that there should be a B & N 50% off all DVDs, which would work well for Eclipse sets as well. As tempting as the 50% off at Criterion.com might be...the shipping costs kind of nullify the deal for me.

BUY this set (at some point) at any cost, as it's a great set of films.

Does anyone here (like our friend Italy12) have any info about that 50% off DVD sale at this point?

Nope. I don't even have a facebook account, but I added titles to "my collection" including adding a wishlist. It seems to be either just adding titles to your collection on Criterion.com or adding titles to their wishlist.
