I don't think MoC "restores" anything.

What I expect is the transfer will be released by MoC without boosting black levels and Criterion's release will. There will probably be variations on extra's.

I guess I give them more leeway than most because copyright issues and intellectual property are an area of interest for me, and I assume that some of this stuff is delayed because of those reasons.
Yeah, I love Criterion and seriously think they are awesome but I poke them from time to time .

If they have any intention of releasing more than one of his films (assuming they intend to and are able to release any of them) I really, really, really hope they do them all at once.

This time they actually did. Or at least they paid someone to do it exclusively for them. One of the two.

I do too, look at all the Jaglom potshots I make. If people can say Lena Dunham slept her way into thr collection, I'll say the same about Jaglom. I also think Summer With Monika should have been a barebones release rather than Summer Interlude, so I haven't, as Joie says, completely drunk the onion flavoured kool aid and loved it.

I hear you on that... esp if they are both on good speaking terms I would think they would do more than one title and Universal would be all in for licensing to Criterion their titles, since they haven't shown any interest in releasing the blus themselves. of course I projecting but still.

If they release both Polanski and Lynch in Oct, my bank account is going to be hurting. There's just so much coming out already in the fall. I don't even want to think about something like a Criterion David Lynch box set in October.

Videodrome is some of the best cyberpunk paranoia I've ever seen even if the film itself isn't really cyberpunk at all.

The director of Attack the Block is supposed to be working on Snow Crash.

The problem with this is, this isn't the problem. The list of titles for example that Yami and myself listed had none of those names. They are all films that hasn't had dvd releases and has been with Criterion for over 2-10 years.

my wish for today's announcements is for releases by a director for 6 years 100% COMPLETELY IGNORED on blu-ray in ANY country--
Douglas Sirk.
C'mon Criterion, make my day.
(and the rest of all film lovers in the world )

Again, just speculating, but it could be copyright issues and contractual obligations on those releases and the ones that have come our preventing that. I keep saying that but only because I know that copyright and intellectual property are a hell of a thing to tackle, and I can imagine film to be far more difficult than books. There's tons of stuff in other regions of the globe that are public domain, but here in north America, it's still copyright protected and will be for awhile.

I agree that criterion should give some sort of indication as to the hold up though. Have people even asked, or do they just talk here.

How about a double dose of Buñuel with The Exterminating Angel and/or The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie? That would be a great announcement!
