Why not?

There's really very little downside and every now and again you get something that's at least fun. The Magnificent Seven and A Fistful of Dollars were flat out great. Even something like Soderbergh's Solaris had its good points (I'm still on the fence about whether those good points carried the day or not).

And let's be honest...I like Le Cercle Rogue just fine but it's not exactly sacred ground.

Light sale for me, as I bought a bunch during B2G1, and had a bunch of preorders in:

Samurai Trilogy
M
Late Spring

I didn't bother to chance Le Havre's price drop and ordered it on Friday. It will show up mid August. One of my B2G1 titles came today, Last Year at Marienbad, Leon Morin shipped separate from it, so that should show up tomorrow, with the 50% off titles showing up at the end of the week just in time for the long weekend. I'm also expecting Night of the Hunter from Amazon.ca by the end of the week as well, that is, the Davis Grubb novel since I already own the BD.

- Certified Copy --- The best blind-buy of the bunch... surprised by just how much I loved it.
- Still Walking
- Harold and Maude
- Wings of Desire -- I'm sure it's shocking to say it, but I honestly didn't get much out of this film...maybe I missed something, because I was disappointed, as Paris, Texas is one of my very favorite films. Yet unlike that one, with this I failed to feel any emotional attachment at all.
- Antichrist
- Gray's Anatomy -- was really curious about trying this out, was pleasantly surprised.
- Alambrista
- Double Life of Veronique -- An upgrade from the DVD
- Solaris
- Playtime
- Sweetie
- The Secret of the Grain -- another great half-blind-buy (I'd seen roughly half of it before)
- Charade -- An upgrade from the DVD
- Crumb
- The 39 Steps -- Haven't watched yet
- Down by Law -- Haven't watched yet
- Basil Dearden Eclipse set -- I liked each film here as well, had been putting it off for too long.
- Czech new wave Eclipse -- Halfway watched. I really wish there was extra material in these sets to offer more insight into the social relevance of these films, that I wish I was more informed on.

Annnnd once again I pass on Diabolique, which is the release I pass on every single sale, whether B&N or amazon. I want it, but for some reason I always put it back on the shelf while deciding. Anyone else have that one title you want but always seem to skip?

The Red Shoes. It's always on the list but has never quite made it to the cart/counter even after the Jack Cardiff documentary bumped it up several slots.

November is another day.

Mine was Modern Times...I had it in my hand 4-5 times and ended up putting it back every time. I just didn't feel ready to go down the Chaplin road this time. Maybe in November....

If anything, a re-make might inspire some people TO watch it, just to compare versions.

DeepDiscount puts them on sale a couple times a year.

B&N has two Criterion sales, two B2G1 sales and a 40% off all DVD/BD sale every year.

Criterion even has 50% flash sales once or twice a year.

Sure, I wish every Criterion was always on sale but we're not really all that far from that now.

If you're willing to wait a bit and keep your eyes open you can get pretty much any Criterion you want at a good price.

From what I heard from my local store, I think we have a good shot at another 50% sale in November.

BTW...turns out I was a good boy. All I "bought" today was renewing my membership. Unless I weaken and order something online, I made out cheaply this time around. Just Berlin Alexanderplatz, The 39 Steps, and Down By Law.

Sorry OilDude...I'm still trying to be patient, as I've got a good feeling about AE or maybe even MoC releasing those other two Mizo films from the Eclipse set. At least my wallet is happy.

Fish Tank for me. I loved the movie, I dig Fassbender a lot.. just can't bring myself to buy it for some reason. I think I've almost gone through checkout like 10 times with that thing and never seem to go through with it.

Would it help if I point out that the short films that come on the release are very good? They were definitely a highlight of this edition for me.
