Instead of asking for a Criterion release, why not b**** and moan to Paramount about putting Zodiac back into print. Maybe even be 'trendy' and start an online campaign...

Wouldn't that be a quicker and more reasonable solution to a person that 'needs' Zodiac???

Just as others have said, Zodiac just needs to get back in print. No way they can make the current disc any better.

Agreed. I'm fortunate enough to own the Zodiac Blu-ray, but it'd be great to see others that really want it, own the release as well.

Other than having the extras that weren't included, included anyway, I agree. But of course that isn't something Paramount couldn't do themselves.

I didn't mean to start such a fire fight by suggesting Zodiac, if paramount gets it back out there, great. If Criterion gets it, even better. I just want it to be avalabile.

Now it would be hilarious if they do announce Zodiac next week.

Just out of curiosity, what would the downside to a Zodiac release really be?

As every other post in the last twelve hours has said, there's a great transfer and a great set of extras ready to go. What would Criterion really have to do that would take time and money away from 'more deserving' releases? Tweak the transfer a little? Maybe find/commision an extra of their own? The booklet and cover art would probably be the most demanding aspects and those don't seem particularly onerous.

I agree the simplest solution would be for Paramount to simply rerelease. I've already said as much.

But what do I really care if somebody asks for it or even if they get it? Sure, I find some of these requests baffling and tiresome but boo hoo, poor me.

Then again, if Zodiac requires no touch-up work and the extras are set why would Paramount need to license it to someone like Criterion to ready it for blu?

Yes, if you like Kurosawa pick it up. If you haven't really watched much Kurosawa, you may want to go with something else first since it's a little bit slower moving and convulted than some of his other "Samurai" films.

I never took your post as a rub, I actually knew about it via Nez's facebook. He went on about his gaspacho and thr tragedy of his broken crackers, and the as an afterthought mentioned the tour. Quite amusing I do say.

I guess people should be happy/amazed that Nesmith even agreed to do a small tour with Peter and Mickey.

As far as I'm concerned...no skit comedy/parody TV show at that time or even after, can touch the first two or three seasons of SCTV.

With the Kino release of his early films coming out in the fall...that would round out my Kubrick collection on blu. At least we know that better source material (than what was used on the Universal release) exists.

I just watched the blu of the Samurai Trilogy this week and I have to say I was surprised at how good these films looked. Were they not 1:33, I would not have suspected how old they are. I've read color had only recently reached the Japanese film industry, so perhaps they made a major effort on this series. Also, I had just been looking at some fuzzy caps from the new blu of Seven Year Itch, made around the same time, so maybe that had something to do with it. Why does a major Hollywood Cinemascope production look inferior to a Japanese samurai movie? Just wondering...
