Eh, it doesn't bother me so much since I'm sure we'll know the truth come October, as the cinematographer is the one supervising the new transfer.
I think everything will be alright. I have seen the movie a few times in the last few years on a France HD channel and it really look's good so I think we can believe once Criterion is done with it that we will have a nice transfer and I can retire my DVD

The sales were affected by the negativity from the move from Criterion to Studio Canal. If I recall Criterion was all ready to make the release and everyone knew it and at the last minute the rights were send to Studio Canal and that made a lot of people very unhappy. After that add the reviews that were not that good from almost everyone (even if not as bad as they made it seem) and this release never stood much of a chance to have good sales. I got it as it still better than the DVD if not being a amazing Blu-ray but I can see why that would not be good enough for certain people, still I am happy with it so that's not so bad

Thanks to my ever increasing desire to see more Ozu films, I now need to add a "BFI" section to my collection.

For the Ozu fans here, do you have a favorite?

I just got Night of the Hunter for 20 bucks new! Really excited. I've only ever seen it on tv and hope the transfer is good.

Late Autumn is my favorite Ozu, not claiming it's the best just my favorite

Golsarnit! I ordered 3 of the BFI blus and that wasn't one of them. I suppose I should just get them all...

BFIs "An Autumn Afternoon"...mostly because it also includes "A Hen In The Wind" which is one of the best of his early films. It plays off An Autumn Afternoon (his final film) nicely, as it shows the difference in his style over that 14 year period of time.

I'm really happy about getting "The man who fell to earth" for 61€ new and shrink wrapped on Ebay. This was the version I wanted to call my own for so long. Another great addition to my growing Criterion collection.

Outside of Criterion but anyone else saw Sleeping Beauty with Emily Browning? Perfect title for it, really put me to sleep. I did not see anything amazing about this movie, reminded me a bit of Eyes Wide Shut, another one that sort of put me to sleep in the same fashion.

Haven't seen it yet, but I'm waiting to get the UK release of it...have been wanting to see it for a while now. Seems most of the reactions are mixed like that.

I can see why it might have appeal but I suppose it depend's on each person, for me I just found the story to be very not interesting and dragging. No doubt the nudity help gave it popularity, that is always a big seller.

I hardly ever actually discuss the films or discs on here, but I just finished watching my copy of Lonesome and have to say what a lovely film it is to watch. It looks pretty darn good considering the available prints, and the talkie parts are absolutely mind-blowing when compared to the picture quality of the rest of the film. I'm definitely excited to watch the other two films, Broadway and The Last Performance, on the disc now. If any of you younger kids can stomach a semi-silent, black & white film then definitely pick this title up on release day.

My only thought about it is that I ordered it a month ago during the 50% off sale and it hasn't arrived yet.

It was interesting but I didn't really "get" it...the story didn't seem to have much resolution.

Still waiting for my copy too, B&N orders always get held up at customs.

It's a good film. It's very poignant and sweet, yet not too sentimental.

I disliked Eyes Wide Shut too. It's why I only bought the DVD when it was 2 bucks at Giant Tiger, and I won't upgrade it. I personally think Tom Cruise ruined the film.

Wow! The gorgeous fluid camerawork in EWS didn't impress? I also think Cruise was perfectly cast.

Don't see why people think Cruise is a bad actor. He's given some great performances regardless of his personal life/public appearances.

And Kidman gave the only weak performance in Eyes Wide Shut, in my opinion.

That's not true. If you need an actor to portray a closeted gay man who publicly tries to convinve everyone he's a heterosexual by acting excited when he meets a woman by jumping on a couch, he's your man.
