I should've kept and sold my 2nd copy of The Third Man, but I gave it to a friend for Christmas.

I did a quick search of this and saw nothing.

On the newest episode of the Nerdist podcast Guillermo Del Toro mentions that Criterion will be releasing The Devil's Backbone on blu ray soon.

Someone currently has a "like new" copy of third man on Half.com for exactly $100.

I couldn't find any, but there are frequently some Half.com coupon codes around the net which might knock that down a bit.

Heh, I went the other way with that. I bought a second copy during a B&N sale a couple months after it went OOP intending to give it to a friend but he kept dragging his feet on getting a player and by the time he did, well...

You're not going to find a copy of The Third Man at B&N next week.

Or the next week, or the next week, or...

Oh yeah, there's a higher chance of finding a dead body there.

(.....That's all I could come up with within a few seconds....)

Thought about sharing this: http://www.ifc.com/fix/2008/09/aki-k...proletariat-tr

A pretty spot-on analysis on Kaurismaki's Ploretariat Trilogy. If Criterion is going to start porting some of the Eclipse sets to BD this should be one of them. Wishful thinking, obviously, but this is a release that should have been mainline from the beginning . It is in no way a "selection of lost, forgotten or, overshadowed classics"!

Yeah, I would like to see new Kaurismaki joining the Collection over upgrades of these films but if possible I wouldn't mind . They should start by adding The Man Without a Past as a mainline. I Hired a Contract Killer would do an amazing lower-budget release too . There isn't such a thing as a bad Kaurismaki (At least not from what I have seen) so anything would be welcome really.

I recently watched the TV series Hit & Miss, which stars Chloe Sevigny as a transsexual contract killer. Anyway, in the sixth (and most likely last) episode, there is a nod to Seijun Suzuki's Branded to Kill. Sevigny's character has her target in her sights when a butterfly lands on the barrel of her gun, causing her to miss. I had to laugh. It's also a pretty good show from the guy who created Shameless.

Get the MoC version of Passion of Joan of Arc or wait for Criterion to announce their upgrade with the Voices of Light score? Decisions, decisions

You'll probably have to wait a while for the Criterion if they're using Gaumont's restoration.

Confirms the news from the Wexner Talk. There's a thread in the general US forum. It's great news.

For me the Voices of Light score is a deal breaker. I will be waiting for Criterion.

Can you elaborate a bit more on this?
Are Gaumont currently working on a new restoration?
MoC restored their own version and have provided it in both 20fps and a 24fps.
Again, this is the problem with Criterion - they should be letting their customers and fans know if they are working on this. Otherwise, many of us will jump on the MoC version...
As usual, this dilemma is a first-world problem
