My copy of In the Mood for Love just shipped! I’ll also be ordering Rashomon, Rosemary’s Baby, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The 39 Steps next week.
I’m also very tempted to pick Le Havre and Godard’s Week-end but I need to check my budget for that. I also have Brazil on pre-order. Anyway, another great Criterion sale and I know I’ll be broke by the end of the month but I’m gonna be very happy ![]() |

![]() I'm really looking forward to your opinions on Salo and Sans Soleil especially (I've seen them all except for the first two and Mystery Train). |

There are an extremely few exceptions like Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence where subs are not fully covering the main feature (in this case, only Japanese-speaking parts are subtitled), but apart from this, all Criterion includes SDH on the main feature.

I have Joe...I have!
![]() I just saw my 26th Criterion title since I signed up for a month trial...they are pretty cool in customer service as well. My wife bought me a Roku XS and it comes with a two month trial (I had a two week trial lengthened to a month, thanks to using a Chase CC). I didn't think they'd extend that another two months...but they did. I finally got to see "The Insect Woman" and "Pigs and Battleships", plus the two Ozus I hadn't seen, four Narsuse's I've never seen, plus new directors to my palate including Kurahara, Kobyashi, a few by Suzuki and I finally got to see what all the to-do was about "The Cranes are Flying"...this one will be most welcome on blu one day. They also have two of the three films of the BRD Trilogy (can't understand why Lola wasn't included) so I'll get to them in he near future. Collecting these films is one thing..actually watching them is quite something else. ![]() EDIT: For those that didn't know (myself included)..."Walk Gracefully", which was directed by Ozu, was written by Shimizu...another great Eclipse set to check out. In the Mood for Love (saw it before buying the BD and is fantastic) The Royal Tenembaums (haven’t seen it but I like other Wes Anderson movies) Rashomon (same as In the Mood) Rosemary’s Baby (haven’t seen it but I’ve heard and read only good things about this one) The 39 Steps (haven’t seen it but is Hitchcock so I’m sure is gonna be great) Le Havre (same as Rashomon) Week-end (haven’t seen it but I’m taking my chances, the premise is really intriguing) Brazil (haven’t seen it but looks really exciting and reviews and worth of mouth are great) So yeah, I often take my chances with Criterion but so far I haven’t been disappointed. I tend to not buy films with polarizing reviews like Antichrist or Heaven’s Gate until I see them for myself so I can decide if I like them or not. |
