Naruse on Blu-ray would be most welcome, especially as I already have the Ozus from BFI.

The Virgin Spring sounds really good, but I don't think I should be hasty and buy the DVD, because I think an upgrade may be in sight.

Sorry to bother again guys but I'm really undecided! So far I've bought 9 criterion BDs and I can buy one more but I don't know what to choose. My top three choices are Playtime, Summer with Monika and Rosetta. I know that many will say that you can't go wrong with any of them and that the three are great but I want to know that if you have to choose only one which one will you choose? I haven't seen any of them so which one is a worthy blind buy (you can choose only one! ) Thanks again!

I personally would go with Rosetta, but Playtime is rumored to be going OOP, so...

Anyone else obsessed with Weekend (2011)? I've already watched three times this week.... tied with Rosemary's Baby as my favorite Criterion film!

All three are great films but it depends on your mood: PLAY TIME and ROSETTA are polar opposites in style and substance. I personally think the Dardenne Brothers are two of the most important and relevant filmmakers in the world today. They probe the depths of the human condition, as their Direct Cinematic style frames the world in claustrophobic angst but always reveals the possibility of hope. And Bergman. 'nuff said.

I would love to have an upgrade of VIRGIN SPRING. I just did a Halloween double feature of this Bergman film and Craven's THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. It began an interesting discussion of what is exploitation and what is Art. Maybe there isn't a difference?

I didn't know that PLAY TIME is going out of print. Maybe time to snag another copy.

Why the constant focus on the OOP titles? This, Chungking, etc.... If a person doesn't want to own Playtime when it's readily available and accessible, why should they want to own it if it's not going to be made anymore by Criterion?

The film is the same as it ever was..... same as it ever was....

I've stated before (multiple times) why I purchase what I do.... Not sure how I qualify for the role of pot or kettle in this case.

If it was going OOP, I would honestly buy some copies to flip on Amazon and eBay.

Yeah...I am that person. Don't blame me...blame supply and demand.

I have one copy of "The Third Man" which I watch every few months.

I traded my extras, during the sale, for 2 regular titles, and one "stripped down" copy (so someone was able to pick them up for $30 total during the sale)

I found copies at a great deal, while copies lingered on used record store shelves and online demand/prices soared, and passed them along for "Much less than market price" to help a couple of people out.

If I walked into a store today and found a copy for $30, I'd do the same thing, or pass it along at cost.

I blind bought House, Rashoman, and Rosemary's Baby. So far I have only seen the first and iI don't know what to fully think. It's batshit crazy and I love that about it. But I can't really say I'd recommend it to anyone. I

I'm heading out to buy something else, and I'm leaning towards Tokyo Drifter, Chungking Express, or Pale Moon. What would you all recommend of those three?

*Pale Flower.

Oh, that's hard...I like all 3 a lot, and would recommend them. I would lean toward Chungking Express, though. It's OOP and it's too essential of a title and great of a film to miss out on. If I have to pick two, I'd pick Pale Flower as well. If you watch the trailer for Pale Flower, you'll have a perfect idea of whether you'll like it or not...the style that makes the film special really comes through in it.

People's taste and appreciation of films develop over time. Your typical Criterion buyer may be into old French classics but completely unacquainted with Hong Kong Second Wave, and so has put off buying something like Chungking Express for a while now.

Cut to a year or two later and the same person has a broader love of film, including Asian stuff from non-Japanese countries. Now they want Chungking Express. Now it costs $200 eBay.
