OK. I didn't see your post until I had finished editing mine. Perhaps the final version is more offensive? Anyway, I'll count movies by SKU (it's an option in user preferences), so Stagecoach won't be counted as two movies in my movie count. If there are single releases for things like El Mariachi / Desperado, I could replace my double feature with the singles to get a correct count there -- I mean add the entries for the singles, delete the entry for the double, then add a comment to the singles to explain it; I don't mean to go out and buy two singles to replace the double.

I bought the Three Colors trilogy from a local B&N store during the latest 50% off sale (about 2 weeks ago). Your comment made me curious to find out which printing I have, so I broke open the seal. My White disc is the first printing. Sooo ... is this a terrible thing?

Yeah, send an e-mail to Jon Mulvaney and he'll give you instructions.

So it depends. But you might as well trade it in.
Thanks! I was looking at the back of the outer case, which says "First printing 2011". I'm not sure how to tell if the disc itself is the first or second printing, but the disc does have "2011" printed on it ... if that means anything.

It would say Second Printing on the disc.

Thanks once again. (Mine doesn't say First or Second Printing on the disc itself). Well it looks like I'll be sending Jon Mulvaney an email.

I ordered Following BD. With Best Buy's free shipping, and low price already of $20.99 minus my $5 Reward Zone ticket, that was a great price.

If it doesn't say Second Printing, then you have the First Printing.

The same thing happened to my Second Disc of Carlos. I contacted Jon immediately and I sent it out. I got a $10 gift certificate for the Criterion store (as courtesy - he does it for everyone) and I received it back within a week or so.

Cool on receiving the gift certificate.

I just finished sending an email to B&N via their "Email us" link on their Customer Service page. I added an "ATTN: to Jon M.", so hopefully the email finds its way to him. (fingers crossed)

EDIT: ... and hopefully Jon's email finds its way back to me as I'm one of those people who can't remember ever receiving an email from B&N since becoming a member (such as for coupons). I included my phone number just in case the email getting back to me doesn't work.

Jon Mulvaney doesn't work for BN.com, he works for Criterion.

Contact him through http://www.criterion.com lol

I think his email is jonmulvaney@criterion.com. Don't quote me on that, though.

Fanny and Alexander has been out on Blu-ray for well over a year.

Anyways, Rich, I assume it looks as good as the reviews have said? It's been about 5 years since I have seen it. I was on a Lang kick I remember.

Ironically, my 11/4 CC releases just showed up.. Brazil can wait, as I've been looking forward to Purple Noon since its announcement. I always loved the book its based on...
I'm very impressed with the PQ on my Kino version of the film. It's supposedly a tad darker than the MoC version, but has a tad better detail (especially black levels). I've been led to believe, that because of the nature of PAL, that UK versions of films on BD, typically have slightly boosted contrast levels. I noticed this especially with their BD version of The Burmese Harp. I'm sure both versions are comparable and the only real differences are the doc with subtitles instead of a narrarator translating the German and a booklet with the MoC version. I buy from MoC a bit, but will occasionally give Kino the nod when differences are minor. Unlike Metropolis and (from what I've heard) The Blue Angel and Fear and Desire, which I will buy from MoC, even though I got burned on the Kino Kubrick.

I should be getting Brazil today (hopefully) or Monday. It wasn't a film that I embraced when it was first released in theaters and/or on DVD, but the fact that both versions of the film, commentary and other good sups were included, made it hard to dismiss...especially getting a two disc set for $20.99.

This was exactly my reasoning. I'm also drawn to dystopias, satires and black comedy, and while this didn't hit my sweet spot I've always felt it would with time. In fact, I've seen it three times now and with each viewing I've enjoyed it more.

Watching Fear & Loathing - for some reason I can't find any subtitles? Was this released without?

Unfortunately, I've only seen bits and pieces of it over the years but Gilliam is a part of my younger days and the comparisons to films like World on a Wire got me to give it a shot. I want to watch the director's cut first and digest it slowly, like Thanksgiving Dinner.
