Yes, if you thought Pathe messed up Children of Paradise, wait until you see Le Samourai. Here's hoping Criterion get a chance to correct their wrongs, because if they don't they will very quickly cease to be my favourite label.

Looks like I need to save a few dollars for september. All the releases are fantastic!! MCML is such a great film too. Wow, CC loses one Bowie film and puts another one out, just fantastic!! What a nice surprise on Breathless coming out. It will be the must-own of the blu-ray collection so far. It's been so long since I have seen Charade. That will be a nice treat too. 2 surprises and 2 expected. CC does not disappoint again!!!

From December 2011 to July 12, I think I had 11 or 12 titles that I classified as "must buys".

From December 2012 to March 2013, I'm already at 10 and scared of what's to come.

Badlands will be a definite purchase for me. Haven't seen any of the others, but The Blob, and A Man Escaped definitely sound worth the blind buys. I'll definitely be looking into all of them though.

Just watched M the other night. It wasn't really what I expected, I didn't necessarily find it all that suspenseful, but it was definitely interesting. To me maybe more as a historical document and as a groundbreaking film and concept, than a story I was captured by. Really interested in checking out Das testament der Dr Mabuse after seeing clips from it on the extras. The interview with the producers son was great - another example of how Criterions supplements can enhance a film.

Received Fanny and Alexander the other day, the last Criterion I got from novembers sale. Somewhat ironic that I have to order from the US to get Bergman on Blu, while living in Stockholm. But great that they're putting it out. I've actually never seen it, despite being born and raised in Uppsala, the town it takes place in!

Really excited about several of the releases coming next year - especially Badlands and Two-Lane Blacktop.

For me, the most memorable thing about M was M's argument in his own defense, when the people attempted to try him in a kangaroo court.

This was the first film that showed me the potential in silent movie language. I'd recommend to anyone to fix a plate of snacks, light a few candles, and sit down to enjoy it. It has that kind of scale and ambition.
I just ordered this, it sounds like I will enjoy it. I know this is silent, but I love Eisenstein's Alexander Nevsky and the two Ivan the Terrible films, is Die Niebelungen's style at all similar to these three Eisentstein's films?

I also really love Scarlet Street and The Woman in the Window. While the City Sleeps is also a fun little crime drama.

I thought The Big Heat was good but it didn't bowl me over. I'm in a bit of a minority there though because it seems like most people who like it really like it.
Great advice. I agree with you about The Big Heat. Probably the biggest problem for me was Glenn Ford playing a tough police officer. I had trouble buying it. There's some pretty decent hard-boiled action in it though.

I started a list of good movies about old men on the Criterion web site, and The Leopard is right up there. (along with Friends of Eddie Coyle, which deserves blu-treatment, too).
Pick up The Music Room. Similar story of a old man stuck in his ways and the changing of the times around him. One of the best movies in the collection IMO.

Picked up the Masters of Cinema release of Das testament der Dr Mabuse. The clarity and detail bump was amazing compared to the Criterion DVD. May have to pick it up again if Criterion ever releases it or if MoC does like they did with the DVD version and releases a boxset of Mabuse films on Blu.

Fanny and Alexander is a awesome film. Be sure to watch the TV version first. The Theatrical version was shortened a good bit.
It takes awhile to get going, but once it does Bergman will have you in the palm of his hands.

While I can't say I've been very much disappointed with Criterion's release slate of 2012 since I am always hungry to see what new films that can bring to my attention (next to the ones I'm already familiar with), 2013 is looking fantastic...my poor wallet!

On Facebook someone guessed Repo Man. Movie matches the generic product designs (as shown above, you can buy coozies and t-shirts that mimic that). Criterion scores again!

It will port all the supplements according to Cox, including the TV version .

Very true...just the only one I could think of that seemed viable (having never seen Repo Man but have seen The Thin Blue Line).
