Looks like it's Trilogy of Life for me this weekend. Last weekend was the 5-hour cut of Fanny and Alexander. It's becoming a holiday tradition that I watch it each December. Terrific film!

I watch 2046 on Christmas Eve every year because most of the events of the movie happen on consecutive Christmas Eves.

Criterion has been absolutely amazing as of late. Brazil, Following, Qatsi Trilogy, Badlands, On the Waterfront, The Blob, Two-Lane Blacktop, etc. They are spoiling us big time.

Me too, hlj. I would love Criterion to have slipcovers like the Yojimbo/Sanjuro set. Rashomon's still somewhere in the post, now overdue, so I guess I won't see it until New Year's now, but I'm assuming it has no slipcover.

I love the packaging for Godzilla, with one exception: I wish there was a better arrangement for the booklet, because it always drops out awkwardly whenever I open the packaging.

Now, if we're talking Criterion wishlists, I'd love to see Nicholas Roeg's Don't Look Now.

I've got an old DVD copy of Don't Look Now that I rather love, but I'm sure that Criterion would do some amazing things with this movie. It's a brilliant flick, and the James Bond film, Casino Royale, even pays tribute to it with the red dress Venice scenes.

I've got Following sitting unwatched on my shelf too. Im waiting for a day when my schedule is tight so i can squeeze this one in. But yeah, you gotta cut the film some slack because it's ultra Low budget. I think $5000 was the number.
Yep, I've seen Powaqatsi and Naqoyqatsi before, just as rentals. I held out on buying them for the Blu-Rays. Powaqatsi is pretty decent; I do find Naqoyqatsi quite gaudy and weird, but I figured I might want to see it again anyway. Each movie has something going for it.

I never really considered how low budget Following is; it looks a bit more expensive than it lets on. It's actually pretty funny how great films can be made on low budgets; I thought El Mariachi was cool as heck, but it was made on, what, like $1000 or something?

Two of the best MoC releases. There are a few titles I'd like to see Criterion release as well Lost Weekend, Pigs and Battleships,The Testament of Dr. Mabuse and a few others. Its a shame they didn't get The Blue Angel. There are a lot of KINO titles I'd prefer Criterion release.

I'm still hoping Criterion will get the rights back and release Blood for Dracula. That movie cracks me up.

What do you guys think will be the next Kurosawa they release? Assuming they will probably release atleast one in 2013.

Just ordered "Three Colors: Blue, White, Red", been wanting to get this for a while. Also grabbed "Three Outlaw Samurai".

Can't wait for "The Blob" to be released

Also grabbed Following. Last time I tried to watch it, I found it kinda dull, but will give it another shot (maybe tonight) to see if I'll like it better this time around.
I was at Barnes & Noble yesterday and grabbed the Qatsi trilogy on a complete blind buy. I took full advantage of their 40% off sale and being a member got the 10% discount as well as that wonderful 30% coupon for one item etc. etc. Anyway, it ended up being only $30.23 and I just couldn't say no. Not knowing a thing about the trilogy was most interesting and I also viewed Koyaanisqatsi and even now I am unable to put into words the experience it was. Simply in awe, was mesmerized from the very beginning and eagerly look forward to viewing the entirety of this trilogy this weekend. I see that these films are the type that what you get out of them is what you bring to table with your views of the world around you.

I purchased this a few months ago and have watched BLUE and WHITE. Both are outstanding films, but I preferred WHITE, one of the most unique films that I have seen.

Wait 'til you see Red.

Glad to see someone who enjoys White, too. It gets unfairly dismissed just for being a lighter film than the others in the set, as if there's something wrong with that.

The first film IMO is the best, I didn't care much for the second one.. honestly I felt really uncomfortable staring at people staring at me - which might have been the point - the third film I expected a lot more from, however I felt like it was a major letdown. I am sure all involved worked hard on it, but when you have so little original footage I think it hurt it the most. I did like the music in the third one more than the music from the second feature. The first one is great though. Still the box set with the discounts etc is a steal.

It would be great if they released experimental works more often. It would be good to see those names above make their way into the collection as well as Hans-Jurgen Syberberg whose Hitler: A Film from Germany I recently saw (and it was stunning).

Agreed. Blue and Red are two of the best films ever made. White is enjoyable, but for some reason just doesn't stack up IMO.

How is everyone so confident the image is Repo Man? I don't doubt it, but what if it really is a hint towards Andy Warhol?

Posts on criterionforum already semi-confirmed Repo Man was coming. The newsletter clue practically makes it a guarantee.

I too prefer White over Blue, with Red being even better.

White used to be my least favorite. But now I like it better than Blue (especially with the framing debacle, but Blue was always framed oddly, now it's just odd and worse).
