Where did you find this picture? It wasn't in their latest e-mail which I just received today...
It was in the email I just got, both the pig and the building.

The easiest Criterion newsletter hint I've seen to date.
(I'm usually slow on the take with these hints, but I guessed this one right away.)

...and I'm pleased at the news, although we already knew it.

This and the Rosemary's Baby one are the two I have had the easiest time with. Often I have no idea, even when they are obvious.

+1
Buster Keaton's The General is one of my all-time favourites and that Josef von Sternberg set is outstanding.

Safety Last would be an awesome release. It is on par with City Lights (I had more laughs watching Safety Last). I believe the DVD is OOP. Another silent movie masterpiece.

It could be Straw Dogs. The broken glasses. Think so?

So, I had a non-Criterion night last night and watched an old favorite, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, on Blu-ray for the first time.

This had never occurred to me before, despite seeing Ferris Bueller's Day Off a great many times, but I wonder if John Hughes was influenced by Godard's Band of Outsiders when he directed the film. The two stories are quite different overall, but Ferris Bueller's Day Off shares quite a few visual similarities with the Godard film. I'm probably over-thinking this, just as I tend to over-think everything else, but I sensed a few things in common between the films.

No, I reckon it's Lord of the Flies. It's a significant moment when the character named Piggy has his glasses smashed (and I'm not about to spoil it).

Yay for Safety Last! Harold Lloyd, yeah!

(It may be lowbrow of me, but I personally enjoy Keaton and Lloyd more than Chaplin. But comedy's so subjective, isn't it?)

. I totally agree. I am glad that someone else shares the same comedic subjectivity.

Unfortunately, Straw Dogs is a title they no longer own the rights to. I have the non-Criterion blu, but haven't watched it yet, mostly because I watched the DVD right before I bought it.

I was kidding. I knew right off the bat that it was Lord of the Flies because of Piggy and the glasses.

It did actually make me think of the old Criterion cover for Straw Dogs, though. I no longer own that DVD, because someone offered me $75 for it years ago. That was a lot of money, but seller's remorse still creeps up on me from time to time.
