Best Buy Lawrence of Arabia (Sony)

I will definitely be going to Best Buy today to purchase Lawrence of Arabia for the all-time (so far) lowest price of $9.99. This is a film that I feel would be more than worthy of the Criterion treatment, however the reviews of the Sony version are outstanding.

That is awesome that you saw the great Frank Zappa live. I started listening to Frank Zappa after college in the early 2000. His Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar was my first Zappa album. I tried playing his music before, but, man, those time signatures are insane.

I am 30, the only time I heard anyone spontaneously mention Frank Zappa in a conversation was my sister in law when she was talking about her college courses. I was happy to know that there are college courses dedicated to the great Zappa. My only hopes is to catch one of Dweezil's concerts. Thanks for sharing your Zappa experience and sorry about your father.

I just came home with it. With the tax, you still beat me, but by less than a dollar.

Still...a great deal and very much worth the price paid.

The new release of Lawrence of Arabia is a visual treat in every sense of the word.

Funnily enough, the standard edition of Lawrence of Arabia was one of only a handful of blind-buy Blu-rays for me. As a film enthusiast, I had always heard such great things about this film, but I wanted to wait to see it on the big screen or on a comparable medium for a first-time viewing experience. I am glad that I waited, because the detail on my Blu-ray/HDTV setup is impeccable, and far beyond what it probably would have looked like on my previous TV on my old DVD player.

This edition of Lawrence of Arabia really knocks it out of the park. That's a great price as well. I believe that I paid $14.99 for it at Best Buy in December.

This may crack you up as a Frank Zappa fan, but my first exposure to Zappa was when he played on a Miami Vice episode back when I was in eighth grade. I used to watch Miami Vice obsessively back then and recorded every episode on VHS to watch multiple times. (Truth be told, Miami Vice is still my second-favorite show of all time, behind the original Twilight Zone series.)

Frank Zappa plays Mario Fuente, a drug dealer aboard a yacht in the episode, "Payback." His character never leaves the yacht and stays mobile in the ocean all the time. Here's the full episode:
http://www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi337...ef_=tt_pv_vi_1

I'm actually watching this again myself after posting the link. It's one of the better Miami Vice episodes.

Thanks again...hard to believe Zappa died almost 20 years ago (next Dec 4 will be 20 years). My Dad died in 1981, so it's been almost 32 years for him. I was 22 at the time.

Zappa used to play concerts on the pier in NYC. Schaefer Concerts, if I remember correctly. His best show was on Halloween in NYC at the Palladium. Even though he was from San Bernadino, I think he really loved playing in NYC.

Wow...I vaguely remember that Miami Vice episode. Much like his appearance with Mike Nesmith on the Monkees TV show. He had a great sense of humor and didn't care who he pissed off...my kind of guy!

Thanks for the information on the Miami Vice episode Great Owl. Now I have to watch this episode. Even in 70s, Frank Zappa was totally against drugs, so I would love to see his take on being a drug dealer.

It is always great to meet another Zappa fan.

I am glad that Frank Zappa recorded most his live sets. The Zappa family has been releasing some of these live sets, the Halloween set included. The Wazoo live set, 20 piece band all virtuosos, is my favorite so far from their releases.

So has anyone on here had their card charged from the flash sale even though their blu's have yet to ship? Criterion.com says my order won't be charged until shipped. I think I've read on here some people were charged before they received shipment email.

Really. "He doesn't look at all well." -- Ringo

And don't forget his other Monkees appearance (and it's Criterion!)

It is good to be somber, especially when you are on a Japanese swing. By the way, I like your avatar.

Magnifying glass? Sounds like a fellow Tapatalk user.

Yeah, I just changed it recently. Feels fitting for some reason.

Excellent choices. Two of the best blind buys I've made. For my part, this weekend was strictly first time viewings: The War Room, The Vanishing, Hidden Fortress and Yojimbo.

(iphone) At first I thought it was the baby from Eraserhead or an angry anthropomorphized whistle.

Great choices, any thoughts on the lot?
