In response to jsummers157@ about the ending:

[Show spoiler]I agree that the ending was atypical in regards to most film ending standards we've come to know, but I think everything was more-or-less "resolved" when the credits began to roll. I felt that by the end of the film, revenge was no longer needed in the traditional sense, as Alex could see the pain and regret that the cop was experiencing, and it was something they both shared. They each made mistakes that they wish they could undo, but would ultimately have to deal with these decisions for the rest of their lives. In my opinion, Alex's revenge was realized -- if he would have killed the cop, it would mean he no longer had to bear the burden of killing Tamara. And let's not forget, Alex did have quite a romp with the cop's wife, who apparently likes it rough.

Overall, great film. Glad to have it in the collection, but I can see how it may not be for everyone.

Just finished Lola Montes and once again the criterion cover in no way prepared me for this film. I enjoyed this film very much from beginning to end, however the opening sequence was my favorite.

Next up, Hunger!

*edit* I know it makes no sense that I arrange them alphabetical/spine #/alphabetical...but I do.
That Bottle Rocket spine is still killing me......

jacob,
That SCC "Senso" release doesn't have English subtitles, right? If not, do you understand enough French, German, or Italian to even watch it?

I know we all love, enjoy, and watch Criterion movies all the time. But I was just wondering how many people on here watch other foreign/artsy movies that are not part of Criterion?

I watch all the foreign "artsy" films Netflix can throw at me...... I don't go through the expense of blind-buying expensive imports though.

Agreed. It had 100% total resolution in my mind. It just wasn't typical.

Their films sound like something I'd really like. Any idea if they plan on putting out Blu-Ray in the future?

Wow, the screen caps for "Bigger Than Life" look incredible for a 1956 film.

Checked out some of the screen shots, and the upcoming BD releases for Sanjuro and Yojimbo look awesome. Man am I hyped for this! Can't wait to read Pro-b's reviews on those two films.

Same here! Right now those are the only Criterion I have on pre-order ($46.99) with Amazon. Probably will pre-order more when they drop their prices back down.

Bigger than Life looks awesome. I wonder why they haven't done a review on Dillinger is Dead yet since it comes out a week before these.

Didn't they make a replacement case for it? Or was Bottle Rocket the one left alone.
