I would not miss the opportunity to buy Vivre Sa Vie. It is a great film on par with Breathless. Pierrot Le Fou and other two films just mentioned are my top three favorite Godard movies. I have seen four other films by Godard.

My rank of Anderson's films:

1. Darjeeling Limited
2. Rushmore
3. Royal Tenebaums
4. Life Aquatic of Steve Zissou
5. Bottle Rocket

So, I reserved a copy of Repo Man at a Barnes and Noble down the street, went to pick it up over lunch, and the digipak box was so torn and jacked up that I decided not to buy it. I reserved a copy at another Barnes and Noble on my way home, so I'm hoping that one will be in better condition.

First world problems...

Not Criterion, but Le Mepris (Contempt) is another Godard BluRay worth owning.

I bit the bullet and paid $60 to a third-party Amazon seller for a copy of Pierrot Le Fou a few weeks ago. I was fortunate to receive a mint-condition copy, thankfully.

I could not tolerate not having that particular Blu-ray.

That is probably the route I end up taking to get Pierrot Le Fou. Gonna prob wait a bit as I save up for the B&N July sale as I already got 4 OOP Blu Rays(Man Who Fell To Earth, Chungking Express, Leon Morin Priest, and now Army of Shadows) so I am gonna get a few cheap choices and make runs at Le Fou and The Third Man.

By the way, the Barnes & Noble down the street still had copies of Army of Shadows and Last Year at Marienbad. People need to look alive and grab those copies while they still can.

Re: Anderson

1.) Rushmore/Royal Tenenbaums (tied)
3.) Bottle Rocket
4.) The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou
5.) The Darjeeling Limited

My favorite Godard is Vivre Sa Vie, by a very, very large margin. It's the only film is of his that I find a steady emotional current. Most of the credit goes to Anna Karina, although Godard knows how to utilize her. She is a transcendant force.

Favorite Anderson's:

Moonrise Kingdom
The Royal Tenenbaums
Rushmore
The Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Life Aquatic
The Darjeeling Limited
Bottle Rocket

The one closest to me has Last Year at Marienbad. Taking the gamble of waiting a few weeks as it's been sitting there awhile now.

You should hurry up and buy Last Year at Marienbad while you can, so that you can be just as confused and befuddled as the rest of us here on this thread.

(I mean this in the happiest possible way, of course. We'll never figure out this movie, but it's fun to make the attempt repeatedly.)

I really liked the conversation with the old man in the restaurant in Vivre Sa Vie. One of the most memorable things from the movie for me.

As far as Anderson goes, I would rank his films as (I haven't seen The Life Aquatic):

Fantastic Mr. Fox
Darjeeling Limited
Royal Tenenbaums
Moonrise Kingdom
Bottle Rocket
Rushmore

The dancing scene is one of my favorite scenes ever.

Rushmore as your least favorite, eh? Don't see that often.

The dancing scene was great. In regards to Rushmore, it was a pretty fun movie, especially towards the end, but I prefer the other ones better.

While we are on Godard how does A Woman is a Woman(?) stack up? It's in my Netflix instant queue but I don't see anybody ever talk about it.

I like A Woman is a Woman. It was the first Godard film I saw, and I constantly forget that...because it (now, I haven't seen it since I was a teenager so I may be wrong) felt much more like 'light' Godard, even for the 60s. Not an essential film, but a worthwhile one if you're a fan.
