2001 is one of those movies you have to be in the mood for. It is more a experience then a movie. If during the first few minutes when its just black for a long time you are annoyed its probably not a movie for you. While there are few minor things that bother me in the movie, No other movie IMO brings about that same feeling of wonder, amazement and mystery that the universe holds then 2001.

At least this one is good for a few days. They sent the MD one last week (Thurs?), and it expired Sunday. Then they sent another MD one, but they sent it on the 6th and it expired on the 7th. This new one expires on Sunday again (12th).

I was thinking of checking out some of the new OOP Criterions. My closest store (60 miles) sold the 2 I was looking at within the past couple of weeks though.

Since I am only a few days away from being completely caught up on watching all of the still-unwatched Blu-rays in my collection, I treated myself to The Twilight Zone: The Complete Series Blu-ray box set from Amazon. $148 leaves a dent in the wallet, but this is my favorite thing that has ever aired on television ever, and I've watched my DVDs of this show countless times. I've heard that the Blu-ray presentation goes miles above the standard definition presentation, so I can't wait to see for myself.

The money that I get from selling my old DVD set of The Twilight Zone will replace the cost for the Band of Outsiders Blu-ray. That's a great thing.

If the Barnes & Noble has any of the out-of-print Criterions, then it's a great idea to snatch them up while you can. They're going pretty fast, but I still see them in some of the local stores around me.

Your sig file quote is great, by the way. I watched Die Hard on Blu-ray for the first time the other night, and it looks so much better than it ever has in other formats. Such a fun movie that never stops getting me fired up.

I opted to watch Wings of Desire later today instead, as some of my family members want to watch the film, as well.

I think that we (meaning I think that somebody else besides myself because I'm too lazy, but I like pitching the idea) should change the thread title to the name of the movie each time, so that people see "Criterion Film of the Week: Wings of Desire", for example, instead of seeing just "Criterion Film of the Week."

I acquired it ummmm...through a torrent, but whaddayagonnado? I will gladly buy it day 1 if it is ever released here in the states (esp. BluRay).
wow! do you imply Turkish Delight has been released somewhere in blu-ray ? if yes in what country ? (perhaps was it an HDTV rip ?)
this is one of my...my favorite Verhoeven movie; I often try to google it just to see if this one has been announced on blu-ray.
So far, I have the DVD zone 1 Anchor Bay.

Yessss!!! It's that good, right?

I too anxiously await a BluRay release. Considering Olive is releasing more foreign films (announced 2 Godard films last month), I'd love to see them take it on.

I like that idea. I do feel guilty for not contributing for 12 Angry Men, I'll have to rectify that in the future but I have yet to see Wings of Desire.

Nice to see the thread gave you added incentive to check it out. I promise it will be a better film than City of Angels

Best blu ray/blu ray set I've ever purchased. Congrats! Great set.

Yeah, I really expected it to be much more primitive both in terms of technique and available source elements but far from it.

And I know Hitchcock was a funny guy and there's a lot of humor in his stuff but even knowing that I still kind of impressed with the 'Nick and Nora' banter between the parents early in the film.

I can't watch Casablanca without falling at least a little bit in love with Ingrid Bergman. In addition to the obvious physical attraction she just had that 'it' factor. There was just something about her. Irene Jacob is very similar in that regard. Charisma, chemistry...call it what you will but they definitely got it.

I watched Wings of Desire again and I'm stuck, unsure of what to think of it, just like the first time. Hopefully I'll compile some kind of thought to post later today or tomorrow.

Most wanted Ingrig Bergman film on BluRay: Gaslight. Years ago in my Hitchcock phase I would always think it was one of his films. The fact that she was also in Notorious and Spellbound is probably what threw me off.
