I'm not real optimistic that Criterion would pick it up, but you never know. It is available on blu-ray from Sweden which is great if you have multi-region capability.

Agree, these two are by far the best of the bunch. I was not impressed with Cronos, I refuse to watch Salo, and If.... is good but I don't think it has a lot of replayability.

Everyone talks about Seven Samurai being one of Kurosawa's best so I'm really intrigued. Cronos would be my introduction to Del Toro's early stuff. If... I love the premise of it after reading the summary. Ivan's Childhood I'd love to pick it up. Finally 120 Days of Sodomy intrigues me the most. I watched the Criterion preview and it peaked my curiosity to say the least. I've seen it on the featured display endcap at B&N even though it's been out for quite a while (probably trying to get rid of it hahah). I'm more intrigued to watch it just because of the controversy.

Right now my picks would be Seven Samurai and 120 Days... with If... coming a close third. I mean I'm really going to blow my load in the July sale. I may just pick up some just for the hell of it anyways.
Seven Samurai

Trust your instincts. I felt let down by If... Seven Samurai is a winner and I bought (but still have yet to watch) Salo for the same reason as you.

I've got a $25 Best Buy gift card. I think I'll pick up Night of the Hunter.

I second this recommendation. Cronos and If... are good films, but really didn't do much for me. Never seen Salo and have no plans to see it.

I have only seen this once on TCM and it delivered on the hype. I hear the extras on this blu are worth the price alone! Arguably the best cinematography I've ever seen.

i found Cronos kinda boring. del toro has way better movies (just my opinion)
salo was not my case. for me its a movie you watch once..and never again.

seven samurai is a movie a movie-fan should have seen even if you dont like asian cinema that much.

I decided to take advantage of the 40% Off sale at Barnes & Noble after all, so I visited a nearby store during lunch break and purchased...

Revanche ($21)
The Leopard ($26)

I finished watching Season One of The Twilight Zone box set last night, so these movies will fit in as I begin Season Two over the long Memorial Day Weekend.

I previously owned Revanche on DVD, and an upgrade was just a matter of time. It's a phenomenal movie that I'm expecting will look perfect in high definition.

Luchino Visconti's The Leopard is a blind buy, but I have been wanting to see this film since I started watching Criterion titles years ago. Burt Lancaster (Sweet Smell of Success, Brute Force, Airport), Alain Delon (Le Samourai, Le Cercle Rouge, Purple Noon), and Claudia Cardinale (Once Upon a Time in the West) are all worth seeing, of course, but I've also heard miraculous things about the high definition presentation of this movie. My experience of watching beautiful Sicily in high definition on The Godfather Trilogy earlier this month sealed the deal in my decision to grab The Leopard at long last.

My 20% coupon that I got through email today would not work in conjunction with the 40% off Blu-ray sale, so I used it buying the new CD from The National (since I've been loving the online previews of the album over the past couple of weeks.). A great band whom I've seen in concert a couple of times in the past.

Just wondering if Amazon will price match the current 40% sale of B&N

Revanche is one of the finest looking Blu-rays put out by Criterion, in my opinion. The phenomenal story just makes it an all around perfect film

Amazon is matching the Barnes & Noble sale.

I got my two Blu-rays for slightly cheaper, since I have the 10% members discount as well.

It really is a great story, and I fell in love with the movie on DVD. I'll probably watch the Blu-ray tonight.

I'm going to save The Leopard to watch this weekend when I have more time to absorb it in its entirety. Just looking at the 20 screenshots for The Leopard on Pro-B's website review gets me pumped up about watching the movie.

I had to exercise some self control in Barnes & Noble today, but it was not too bad, since the 50% sale is apparently forthcoming.

Still, I picked up the following titles and looked them over before putting them back on the shelf...

Fritz Lang's M
Fritz Lang's Ministry of Fear
Fritz Lang's Metropolis
The Double Life of Veronique
Yojimbo/Sanjuro double pack
Diabolique

These will all wait until another day.

I think Ministry of Fear was under $20 last week on amazon. I think I'm waiting for the Yojimbo/Sanjuro as well as The Three Colors Trilogy during the B&N sale.

I only own about 10 Criterions so far. Besides buying the OOP titles to get them before I'm priced out of them, I have been starting with the most accessible Criterions and working my way out. Seven Samurai is at the top of my wish list now that I've gotten the recently OOP Criterions. I think it's a can't miss and I am not as open minded as the vast majority on here

Must own. But I guess consider the source. I am pretty sure I am going to earn some kind of nickname associated with being a Krzysztof Kieślowski superfan (can't find the right word) before long lol
