I've seen a part of it before and I liked what I saw. Anything Clint Eastwood is welcome, in my opinion.

Yep. I even own the "bad" Eastwood flicks. I would probably blind buy Paint Your Wagon if the chance arises.

It's a lot of fun. Clint Eastwood, Jeff Bridges, George Kennedy, and various car chase hijinks in the vein of a lot of 1970s films of that nature. I have not seen it since I was in middle school or so, but I remember it being a blast.

Pro-B is right in that this Criterion release has not been officially confirmed. The mention of Criterion releasing it on Blu-ray, though, comes from a Twitter post by the director himself. (This is linked in the main forum thread.)

This would be good for Michael Cimino, since Heaven's Gate has received a good reception in the Criterion Collection.

I wish that Michael Cimino's Desperate Hours would see a Criterion release. That would really be something, y'all.

EDIT: I'm not seeing the main forum thread anymore. They must have killed it. Probably not a bad idea.

I hope that I did not accidentally start a stampede.

I finally saw my copy of World on a Wire and I am just amazed at how Fassbinder just keeps pumping out quality. I know he is associated with quality, but just witnessing it is incredible. With so many hits up to this point, I have no clue which films of his I like the most.

If I have to choose, maybe my top 5 would be like this (no specific order):

World on a Wire
Whity
The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant
Beware of a Holy *****
Martha

Yeah, I've only seen Deer Hunter & Heaven's Gate. Based on the strength of those two, there must be another solid movie in his filmography. I too have a fondness for 70's car movies, so I'm sure "Lightfoot" is an enjoyable movie.

Speaking of car movies, I can't wait to grab Two Lane Blacktop so I can pair it with Vanishing Point as a double feature.

Where did you see this? I can't seem to find it.

If true, I would be quite pleased.

TCM is the best. Great selection, great hosts, great specials and they're one of the few broadcast channels that goes out of their way to respect original aspect ratio.

It's a great resource.

Now that I have America Lost and Found, I can make a double feature of Two-Lane Blacktop and Easy Rider.

Better yet, I'll soon be ordering the Shout Factory Blu-ray of Dirty Mary Crazy Larry/Race with the Devil. Two outstanding films that will make a perfect 4-movie feature night with the above two.

I'll probably watch Head from the America Lost and Found set tonight after I finish the last episode from one of the discs of The Twilight Zone.

Default Le Cercle Rouge

I finally received the feared but anticipated notice from Amazon - they will not be shipping my ordered copy of Le Cercle Rouge on blu... I am a bit peeved with myself for not purchasing this ages ago, as it has been in my cart on numerous occasions. Anyway, I've now ordered the UK version, which will be just as good.

Just FYI there is a new copy from an Amazon seller for 37. Has a 30 day return policy too in case it's sketchy

Several people believe that the StudioCanal edition of Le Cercle Rouge is closer to the filmmakers' intent when it comes to color schemes. The Criterion edition has more of a natural film look, though.

It's probably six in one and a half dozen in the other. It's a great film either way.

Over the past 2 days, I watched 3:10 To Yuma and Jubal. Two excellent films and the interviews on 3:10 were great.

Ford as the sly, charismatic villain of Yuma plays well off of Van Heflin's conflicted rancher. The film is wall to wall atmosphere and the last moment of the film is quite wonderful.

That said, I think despite the almost classic reputation of Yuma, I preferred Jubal just a little bit more.

First off, it's wall to wall great actors and they really play so well off each other. Of particular notice are Borgnine and Steiger.

Additionally, there's just something I love about that mid-50s high melodrama and the lush Technicolor.

Regardless of the relative lack of extras between the 2, these releases are highly recommended!

Default Barnes and Noble Question

I just got back from my local Barnes and Noble. I spoke to customer service to find out when the current 40% off sale ends. He told me that Monday, June 3rd would be the last day to take advantage of it.

Now I believe that the B&N "buy two-get-three" sale begins Saturday, June 1st.

Here is my question:

This week-end, can I purchase two Criterions for the current price of $23.99 and receive a third one that sells for the same price free, making it three for $47.98?
