Well I just watched The Wages of Fear on Blu-ray and I have to say it is a very good movie. The Blu-ray looks quite good as well. I had never seen this movie but glad to have now.

Another confirmation of the "Benjamin Button" blu-ray packaging is posted over at CriterionForum.org by cdnchris, and he's the reviewer for the Criterion discs over there.

"The Blu-ray for Benjamin Button comes in a standard blue case with a cardboard slip, not what Criterion usually does. Just an FYI. I'll post pics when I can but it shouldn't be too hard to picture." - cdnchris

I'm sure the packaging will look similar to the standard DVD packaging, which he has already posted.

I'll guess we'll just have to wait until next Tuesday, or until someone gets around to posting pictures.

Here's the blu-ray packaging for "Benjamin Button" as posted by cndchris over at CriterionForum.org.

the package doesn't look like a knockout... looks like Criterion had to work with Paramount on this case since it was such a high profile release, to get stuck with the blue case.

It looks ok but it doesn't match any of their releases... should've been a Paramount release only.

The outer slip cover is ok looking but that blu case clashes badly.

I agree, Powell. It almost makes me want to buy the standard DVD just have the clear case that it comes with. It's not a bad idea, actually. I'm sure it'd be no problem to turn-around and sell the DVD.

I was hoping for the Clear Case more for the fact that I would expect people to purchase the Blu-ray by mistake.... and thus re-sell it to used shops.... which would get inundated with copies.... driving the resale price down

(always looking out for #1)

Had this on preorder and canceled it. New speakers = no movies.

Hopefully I can squeak this one by pretty soon.

Red face Sorry

Please forgive me. I am sure it is in this thread, but I am trying to avoid digging backwards through the many pages.

Has anyone contacted Criterion in an effort to source the clear cases, or to buy them directly from Criterion?

You are not forgiven for laziness, but many have enquired to Criterion about the clear plastic cases being offered with covers for their first blu-ray releases, of which all were told that Criterion had no plans for issuing the clear plastic cases at this time, but it is something they were considering.

Other than that, I don't think much else is known.

I hope Criterion gives us the option to swap out the original cardboard cases for the clear cases. I like the clear cases alot better than the cardboard and blue ones. I would like to put Benjamin Button into a clear case to make the Criterion collection more uniform.

Im just wondering since Criterion decided to use the same numbering system for the blu rays am I ever going to see The Killer, Straw Dogs, Sid and Nancy, ETC..ETC... released by Criterion in Blu Ray and if not then wondering why they are trying to sell a collection that can never be completed.......

just throwing that out there.

Out of print titles have come back into print before (Salo, Charade) but I would imagine that most of those titles are gone for good.

So basically we will never have a chance to complete the collection? Kinda dumb dont ya think? Hey Criterion why would you sell something that cant be completed? You should have changed the numbering system for Blu Ray since its a different medium! At least folks collecting the SDVD can pay some bucks to get the OOP discs...you are selling something that can never be completed.
