I wasn't aware that his talk was that extreme. I understand the annoyance. And I see a bit of stereotyping as well. But this is just a forum guys, c'mon relax. Nothing said here deserves all this. We are just a bunch of people with ideas and opinions. If all you want to talk about is film, then one way to solve that is to only talk about film.

I also love the early EPs that Ride released before Nowhere. The band went downhill after Going Blank Again, but Carnival of Light is not a bad album, and even Tarantula has a couple of cool moments.

I'm also in for My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Lush, and several other shoegaze bands from back in the day.
I think Slowdive's Souvlaki is my favorite all-time shoegaze/space rock album ever. I can listen to that album nonstop and still never get tired of it. Can you recall any films where any songs from the Souvlaki album are on there? If so, Criterion ought to release an edition with any shoegaze music on there (the only movie that comes to mind is Lost in Translation with Kevin Shields doing a bit of the score).

i guess the comments were too extreme . . . for some reason, they've been taken down, and all the other comments linked to his, too . . . i think this is a shame . . . he posted what he posted, let it stay there.

Any and all show gaze fans should check out No Joy's album "Wait to Pleasure". They're a pretty good new band with a handful of awesome songs, most notably "Lunar Phobia."

It's a tremendous song right?

Overall, it's a pretty strong album. Not as cohesive as MBV's latest, but the great tracks soar pretty high.

Feel foolish for never hearing of them.....coming from a guy who was lucky enough to see Lush before the bassist tragically ended his life and the band broke up.

Thanks again for turning me onto them.

Wow, how come I never knew about this nu-gaze band either?! Thank you for the recommendation. I just listened to some track clips on allmusic.com. The new album you mentioned got a 4.5 star review (out of 5 stars) too. Some really good stuff here I must discover now. I will be downloading and listening to this album soon and may report back my thoughts.

Wait to Pleasure came out less than 2 months ago, so you haven't been in the dark too long.

You should PM me the full list of Shoegaze stuff I should be listening to other than MBV, Galaxie 500 and Slowdive.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts. A handful of those tracks are now some of my most listened to songs of the year.

(Turning two people on to No Joy has already made my day)

I've got my entire list planned out already!
Hoping the two sales overlap eachother and have $360 saved up for just this sale alone (although a chunk of that is for shipping and taxes of course. Also gotta pay $3 a package to the place that I pick them up at in the states)
Heres what I have written down:

If the buy two get one free overlaps with the 50% off then these are my picks:

Shoah*
Pierre Etaix*
Three Colors

Safety Last!*
Monsieur Verdoux*
Purple Noon*
Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp*
A Man Escaped*
Marketa Lazarova*
Wild Strawberries*
Summer With Monika
The Lady Vanishes*
The 39 Steps
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Double Life Of Veronique*
Life Of Oharu*
The Naked Kiss*
Sanjuro
In the Mood For Love
3 Women*

The ones with stars beside them are movies I plan to get if the sales don't overlap. Also thinking of switching out Three Colors and getting Gate Of Hell, Up All Night With Robert Downey Sr. and The Ballad Of Narayama.

The top 5 of that list of course are the ones at the top :P

Sweet Smell of Success
Kiss me deadly
The blob
Stagecoach

Or

Paths of glory
Letter never sent
Modern times

Or some combination of the two....thoughts?

I just had a revelation. If Frances Ha becomes part of the collection, that will be yet another title that features David Bowie (in the soundtrack this time).

If they could wrangle The Hunger from MGM (and I can't imagine MGM putting up much of a fight) they'd make a lot of people very happy.

No such thing as too much Bowie.

I watched the '25 original first mainly because I'd only seen the '42 version. For a first time viewer that's never seen either....tough call.....You win either way!
