Probably like all the rest.
Picked up

The Seventh Seal
Band of Outsiders
Purple Noon
Shoah

All blind buys...
I had Ravanche, hunger, my life as a dog, and Battle of Algiers in my hands, but couldn't pull the trigger. Maybe next time when I go back to pick up The Ice Storm and Devil's Backbone.

Prediction

Breaking the Waves
Robocop
Don't hesitate on Hunger and Revanche! Both are great!

My pickups so far:

Shoah
Life Of Oharu
Wild Strawberries
The Devil's Backbone (Pre-order)

I will also be picking up:

Lord Of The Flies
The Ice Storm
Babette's Feast

That's it for me this go round. Luckily, I've been keeping up with all the new releases and don't have too much to buy.

Would there ever be a chance of Michelangelo Antonioni's The Passenger hitting Criterion BD?

We should be so lucky one day. I've always wanted to have this one. I've always heard that this one is difficult to obtain, as far as licensing and such.

At first viewing I felt like the fourth quarter and heist chapter of the movie was sloppy, I don't know how to to explain it but I didn't really feel like I knew what was going on and whether or not the scenes made sense to me with respect to the characters' motives. But then again, I am a rookie film-viewer if there is such a thing and will definitely be re-watching it more than a few times to see if I can better appreciate what Godard is trying to do.

I limited myself to 8 films for the B&N sale. Shipped as of today, I got DAZED AND CONFUSED, GOMORRAH, HOUSE, NAKED LUNCH, THE KILLING, THE BLOB, HIGH AND LOW and PARIS, TEXAS. I'm holding out on other titles that I'll pick up in November.
I'm very anxious to find out the new titles for October. I've got my fingers and toes crossed for SCANNERS, THE BROOD and EASERHEAD.

The Sony Pictures Classics DVD can be had for pretty cheap. And let me say this: the quality is surprisingly good. Definitely worth a look for the impatient Nicholson-completist (dammit, why haven't I watched the recording of The Last Detail yet?)

Please rent Weekend beforehand. It's an amazing work of art, but frankly it is not as accessible as the films he made in the early sixties.

That is really too bad if it's that difficult to acquire.

I first discovered that movie on DVD when it first was released back in 2006 or so. I had never heard of the film, nor the director, but I bought it blindly at WalMart of all places simply because it was a Nicholson film that was new to me at least. It ended up being my introduction to Antonioni and other similar directors. I instantly fell in love with the film and it remains one of my favorites to this day. I ended up rewatching it twice almost immediately for the two commentary tracks as well.

Come on Criterion, lets make this one happen!

What do you guys think of Short Cuts and Secret Honor? They seem like movies that would be a "one-time view" for most people, especially considering that Short Cuts is three hours long.

Also looking to pick up Wings of Desire but I keep backing out.

It's doing better than expected. For a non-adaptation/sequel, an estimated 50 million is really good. It wasn't tracking nearly that before its release.

Get it now. Several of the bonus features on SS are Criterion exclusive, including a fantastic group commentary by renowned Kurosawa experts. If by some chance the BRI comes with a better package (and by that I mean more than a metal case to keep the disc in ), you can offload the Criterion for very near your purchase price I think.

I personally found Short Cuts a one-time view, so maybe you could rent it beforehand

Just had to reorder The Man Who Knew Too Much, since B&N completely flaked on putting it in my package with Monsieur Verdoux and Colonel Blimp from the B2G1 sale over a month ago. Luckily they refunded me for half the order, which was enough to cover ordering the film again and half of Letter Never Sent, which has been on my radar for a while.

Good news. The last reports I read had esimated it's opening weekend at under $40 million.

Secret Honor is incredibly silly, and double that if you've already seen Anthony Hopkins in "Nixon". You ain't heard wacky conspiracy theories yet, and you'll be grateful Hopkins didn't try to do an imitation.

I don't know if there was an exact answer for this, but… Why was PTA at Criterion a few months back? Was it only to interview Downey Sr. or was he maybe approving an upcoming release of his? PDL or Hard Eight, which one would it be if that was the reason for him just chilling there? I'm a huge fan, so hopeful speculation is why I'm reaching..

I would love for it to be either of those, but especially Hard Eight.
