I'll second that. That's why my two favorite Fellini's are Giulietta and La Strada.

Anyone else's original paper slipcover for Last Year At Marienbad turn yellow around the edges? I just noticed this on mine today and it just broke my heart.

I was wondering the same thing few days ago, It is not yellow yet, but I must says it's looking rather pale..Or perhaps it was always that way and I didn't notice it at first (?)..

I really don't understand why they took away The Last Year at Marienbad replacement cases but still have ones for Chungking Express and The Man Who Fell to Earth. I need to find a replacement case for Marienbad, I hate digi-packs!

No hard feelings here. I'm sure there are other films on my 10 least favorite from last year that pop up on other people's favorites.

What a wonderful movie all around. It was kind of predictable, but that's not the point. It was so very very very well executed.

I'm not sure if I loved the movie because of the great storytelling, or if it's because I kept enjoying looking at Cecile De France.

The continuous bike ride scene that went on for about a minute reminded me so much of Antoine's last run to the coast in 400 Blows. Albeit, it was under different circumstances, you just watch the scene go on and on and it makes you think deeper into what each character must've been thinking at that very moment.
It's a wonderful film. I love the Dardenne brothers' work. I hope Criterion give the same great treatment they've given their three releases to Le fils some day.

Hi,

Any suggestions if I were just to pick 1 among these 3 titles? I already have 9 titles chosen but due to budget constraints, I am forced to pick just 1 from these to make it 10:

The devil's backbone
M
Last metro

TIA!

Hard to go wrong with M! Definitely gets my vote.
Mind you I still haven't seen the Devils Backbone which I hear is really good.
Last Metros not that great though.

If I remember correctly they already had the Marienbad case on back order when they announced it was going OOP. So probably just printed enough to fulfil that.

Time to watch Bound again. Absolutely love this film. It should be in the collection too.
One of my favorite films. I wish it sold for cheaper so I can buy the Blu.

The BluRay is good, but like The Quiet man, it has a bit of those blocky shadows sometimes. Well worth picking up though (importcds should have the lowest price).

Criterion-related by a couple of degrees separation, I guess...

It's funny that I watched Yojimbo and Sanjuro last night, then woke up this morning to see a news story about an upcoming Japanese remake of Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven. I love how the Japanese samurai films and American westerns influence one another.

The Japanese trailer does not include subtitles, but you'll recognize each and every scene if you are familiar with the original Clint Eastwood film. Ken Watanabe (Inception, The Last Samurai, Letters from Iwo Jima) takes over Clint Eastwood's iconic role.

I, for one, think that this looks as cool as hell.

Thank goodness for more 20% off coupons! I can get titles down to around $15.50 without any hassles and, by the time I toss in 3 GC's from Viggle for each one, I will be walking out with some more Criterions for around 50 cents each out of pocket.

I think I'll go with Colonel Blimp and Mystery Train as blind buys.

Owl --> That actually looks pretty cool. I hope it will see a more international distribution. Would love to see it.
