Anyone have a clue if Remains of The Day, which has just been released in the UK and some other Region B territories will have a release on Criterion or some other respectable US label (Sony themselves, perhaps? Not Twilight Time, please).
Apparently the UK blu-ray is missing an Emma Thompson commentary track that was present on the DVD ![]() ...and there's that absolutely ugly cover. |

I finally got a chance to watch The Devil's Backbone this week. With del Toro's obvious politics aside, this is an incredibly moving film for one of the horror genre. It is a companion piece with Pan's Labyrinth. I highly recommend it!
In non-Criterion related news, I just purchased the Universal Monsters Collection from Amazon-UK. It is the same blu-ray transfer as the American version and it is region free. The total cost including shipping and tax was $39.12, and when you consider that you get eight films in the pack, it winds up being less than five dollars per film. |

Just got my notice from Criterion that my Flash Sale order of Seconds and Autumn Sonata is ready to be shipped. Very nice since they originally had estimated a 10/23 shipping date. Looking forward to both since it's been quite a while since I've seen either one.

(Slaps forehead) Of course! Although to be fair, I think I've only read two of his homophobic rantings, but that is still two too many. I should have remembered!

I'm chuckling at the inclusion of two Tyler Perry movies. Tyler Perry recently bought a large piece of property west of Atlanta where my trail running friends and I have run a few races every year. Previous property owners have been gracious about letting us run on those trails, but Tyler Perry's people have denied access, and we're now having to work with alternate courses for those races. Of course, this is probably a decision of his security employees and not a firsthand decision of his. I've never seen any of his movies, so I cannot speak for those. |

![]() As for Extremely Loud, I think the subject matter alone makes it a must see. I mean, you can't talk about 9/11 on film without having seen it. So besides Crash & Pay it Forward, what are the other 8 on your list? |

Huh? $125 x .5 = $62.50. If you're a member another $6.25 off brings it to $56.25. If there are any 10/15/20% off coupons it's even less.

My 10 Least Favorite Films... 1. Pay It Forward 2. Crash 3. Rob Zombie's Halloween 4. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen 5. Norbit 6. Spawn 7. Just Cause 8. Domestic Disturbance 9. A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) 10. The Matrix Revolutions Now, I've seen a lot of bad movies in my time, since I went through a phase years back when I would shell out five dollars for those Mill Creek "50 Chilling Horror Movies"/"50 Sci-Fi Movies"/"50 Grindhouse Movies" DVD packs and just sift through them to find jewels among the stones. The above 10 movies are probably better described as "most disappointing movies" or, better yet, "movies that suck so bad that I cannot even joke about them like I joke about the Mill Creek horror movies." ![]() Spawn, while I don't hate it, squandered the potential of that story. I mean, come on! He sells his soul to Beelzebub for the chance to be reunited with his wife. What could have been very heart wrenching, pulpy material was turned into a tonally all over the map misfire. *sighs* This is the ONE comic book movie I want someone to get right one day. |

Spawn hit a bad nerve with me mostly because of the bad CGI effects (even considering the time of the movie's release). The movie just bored me more than anything, though. Rob Zombie's Halloween took all of the strengths of the original John Carpenter film (the ambiguity of where Michael Myer's evil nature originated, sparse violence, etc.) and shoved all of that under the bus to make this meth trailer reject. This remake is just unsightly to me, in the same way that Affliction T-shirts or plastic testicles hanging from pickup trucks are. I hate everything about it with a passion. Norbit... My gym trainer threw a big summer party at his house after he bought a huge projector system so that he could show movies in his backyard. He randomly picked Norbit from a rental place, thinking that it would be a great universal-appeal choice for the party. About 40 of us grilled out food and sat down to watch the movie. Afterward, we were all like, "Uh...thanks for having us over!" Just Cause... Sean Connery is pretty awesome, and the suckitude of this movie is through no fault of his. This could have been a somewhat decent "In the Heat of the Night" spin with the Florida Everglades setting, but the ick factor of the outcome throws the whole thing off. A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)... I spent this movie focusing on Rooney Mary, thinking about how beautiful she was and hoping that she would be appearing in a lot more movies. This was the only decent aspect of this remake. Last edited by The Great Owl; 10-09-2013 at 02:40 PM. |

Apparently, French label TF1 will be releasing Rocco and His Brothers on blu-ray next year. Unfortunately, they're not English friendly, thus here's hoping for either Criterion or MoC's edition in not too distant future

I watched Carnival of Souls on TCM this morning because I couldn't sleep.
I've never been a fan of older horror films because they're usually very silly, but this was honestly one of the creepiest ones I have seen. Even though I was dozing off here and there, I can see why everybody wants an upgrade. |
