FoxConnect.com is having a 50% off Flash Sale right now if you type FLASH into the coupon code. The website is cumbersome and moves at a snail's pace, but you can browse the Blu-ray movies and pick.

I just ordered...

Billy Wilder's The Apartment
Billy Wilder's The Seven Year Itch
John Ford's The Grapes of Wrath
Elia Kazan's Wild River

All for $31.96.

This is huge, because I had been intending to buy the two Wilder movies at my local Barnes & Noble, and it would have cost me as much for those two as it did for me to buy all four from this Fox sale.
It's a really nice sale. I got both Elia Kazan box sets for $44.99 shipped.

Haven't been in the local B&N yet, so I can't answer this one.

Quote:
~DVD of The Man who Fell to Earth came in a slip with a book, I just got a blu of it, no book/slip. Is my Blu Complete (Disc, digipack, booklet)
The DVD is an Amaray plastic case for the disc & booklet, along with a copy of the novel, both in a slipcase (i.e., the opening is on the side).

The Blu-Ray is comes in a digipack with a slipcover (i.e. openings on the top and bottom), and does not include the novel reprint.

Quote:
~ My new copy of Videodrome has no book, the DVD did, I contacted CC via email 3 times over a year, and not a single reply, did it come with a booklet, how do I get it or get a response
I don't have a copy of the Blu, but Criterion's site description says "A booklet featuring essays by writers Carrie Rickey, Tim Lucas, and Gary Indiana". Since it does not specify "DVD only", I assume it should be in the Blu-ray as well.

Quote:
~ Last Emperor Extended cut, why no Blu?
Don't know. I can make an assumption, though. When they released it, it was only their second month (January 2009) of Blu-ray releases, and they probably wanted to keep the price down. Their Blu-rays didn't go above $39.95 until September of that year, with The Complete Monterey Pop Festival. Given that the boxed set DVD edition was $59.95, they probably felt that including the extended version to the Blu-ray would've added too much to the price for the new format.

I thought about buying those Kazan box sets, but I've already got Panic in the Streets at home waiting for me to watch it this month, and I figured that I'll settle for the individual highlight films.

I am really looking forward to seeing Wild River, though. I've been hiking at some of the filming locations. It'll also be nice to have another Lee Remick film.

Early Jack Palance! Good movie, Noir like, even though it's missing every element of the genre, hard to explain! (Hero isn't a cop/detective, no real love interest and no real crime driving it)

I have to say. I'm getting very tempted to ditch my BFI blu's of Tokyo Story & Late Spring for Criterion editions.
I'll be happy owning both versions of both films. BFI gets me the extra films, and Criterion the stellar extras (I love Tokyo-ga and am looking forward to all the Tokyo Story features)

First time posting in this website. Been privately viewing for a good year and I'm very glad to find you folks. You all have a passion for movies. Excited to finally be participating.
A couple of questions: This is my collection of CC and I'am planning on picking up one from BN. Which should I add next?

Bicycle Thieves
The Uninvited
The Wages of Fear
Seven Samarai
Rashomon
On The Waterfront
The Killing
The Seventh Seal
Paths of Glory
A night to Remember
8 1/2
The Think Red Line
The Darjeeling Limited
Rushmore
Two-Lane Blacktop
M
The Battle of Algiers
Curious case of Benjamin Button

Also, what are the chances a film like Goodfellas or Napoleon Dynamite getting the CC treatment?

Thanks for heads up!! Such a nice guy!! :-) Headed there now.

And on CC note, just got Salo for $16 at my local BN store. Took my 15% coupon my wife sent me, and my member discount. Love it!

Anyone a fan of House of Games, Down by Law or Night on Earth?

Just was looking at possible blind buys to go along with Francis Ha on Tuesday. I'm a fan of Mamet and Jarmusch but never have seen those three. Anyone buy/like thoses?

Huge fan of all 3 films. I'm a major Jarmusch fan and also admire Mamet as well.

I recommend all three, especially Down by Law, one of the funniest films in the Criterion Collection, HANDS DOWN.

You should add The Double Life of Veronique next. It is amazing. On of my favorite films of all time, and it's worth it just for Irene Jacob. As for your other question, there is pretty much zero chance of those ever being criterion releases.

Same here. I tried to order some other things (The Magificent Seven Collection and The Alfred Hitchcock Collection), but it wouldn't apply the FLASH coupon. Of course, it doesn't tell you which items don't apply, so you have to subtract and add to see what applies.

Down by Law is a fantastic movie, and it features one of the most impressive black and white transfers in the collection.

Seeing that you have a Fincher title in there, go for The Game. Great modern action/suspense movie.

Of those, I'd say get these three at least:

The Ice Storm
The Last Emperor
Ingmar Bergman/Rossellini set
