I like Wes Anderson movies, but I wish Criterion would only release stuff that actually needs a new release. Fantastic Mr. Fox already has a good blu ray release. It doesn't need to be released again. I certainly won't be double dipping.

Caved and bought The 400 Blows from amazon third party seller. 40$ is fair and I don't feel like waiting for the reprint. Out of curiosity, does anyone know how long Breathless sold out to announcing a new print? Doesn't make sense to just allow them to run out and than spend a good time to reissue a dual format. What's the reason for the long delay anyway?

Breathless is coming in February. Not sure why it takes so long to get them back out, maybe it just takes time.

Also, I may only be able to purchase 1 Criterion this week. If you had to choose between Blow Out and Paris, Texas, which would you choose? I have seen Blow Out and I don't have any De Palma on Criterion yet.

Thanks in advance for your help!
I'll be the voice of dissent and say you should get Blow Out as you get more bang for your buck because, in addition to being De Palma's best film, it has Murder a la Mod, another film from De Palma film, as an extra.

I love WoD and was bored by P,T. I thought P,T was a great short film stretched out to feature length, that's my 2 bits.

The DVD edition of Vampyr came with a book that contained Dreyer's original screenplay AND Le Fanu's story Carmilla, which loosely inspired the film. I doubt they're going to re-do the book for a BD edition. Which is why I hope MoC do a BD of Vampyr so I can get it for the Guillermo Del Toro commentary

Okay, let us now switch a bit to other directors who have been featured prominently in the Criterion Collection.

Such as...

Jim Jarmusch!

So how many of his films are in the collection?

Stranger Than Paradise
Down by Law
Mystery Train
Night on Earth
Fishing with John
(featured in there)

What other Jarmusch films belong in the collection?

I know!

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai!

Who wants this? I do!

Maybe even Broken Flowers would be good too.

Then there's that brand new movie of his called Only Lovers Left Alive that is coming out soon. I could see a Criterion release there!

Jarmusch forever!

Love Jarmusch, but I think Ghost Dog is his weakest by a mile. Dead Man is his best, and I'm sure they could get a lot of stuff for it (especially with champions of that film including Rosenbaum), but there's already a stellar blu transfer (at least here in Aus there is). Honestly? Limits of Control I loved, but may be in the minority for, but it would look insane in HD. Not sure what supps they could muster up, but I'm sure they could figure something out.

True. But Warner doesn't seem interested in it. The dvd release was lacking any extras unless you want to count that battered re-release trailer with an image of the Thing that resembled Boris Karloff in The Invisible Ray. Awwww Fuuudddgggeee!

Would love to get a special Forbidden Planet or War of the Worlds Criterion set.

I'd kill for Criterion releases of the early John Waters films.

And for the record, I love A Dirty Shame.

Why are there no Cohen Brothers films on Criterion ??

Raising Arizona
The Big Lebowksi
Miller's Crossing
True Grit
Blood Simple
O Brother Where Art Thou
Fargo
No Country for Old Men

Is there so e sort of bias against them ???

Wes Andersen gets three or more and these guys get zero ? Hmmmmmm.

Or, does it just come back to that old question about why no Fox releases on Criterion?

I'd settle for a BD release, period. haha 3D would be nice, but I doubt we'll ever see it for FFF.

Love the Odd Couple quote in your sig, btw. One of my favorite comedic moments in cinematic history.

Not really. They could (and totally should) rescue The Big Lebowski and Barton Fink from Universal.

I have not been interested in Criterion long enough to understand the politics behind their selections. I was not aware that they have never released a FOX title, thanks for the info. Sucks because in general I love the criterion 'treatment'

I thought Criterion were supposed to be preparing Barton Fink for a Blu-ray release - or at least there has been some speculation about it in this forum.
